I went to the grocery store to use some of my FREE Deli Creations coupons that I have won through participating in the Desktaurant dates on Wednesday's in the The Breakroom.
I had 6 of the sandwiches along with a few other items I needed.
I gave the cashier my coupons, she looked at them and said, "Oh cool, buy 1 get 1 free."
I kindly replied, " No, they are just free."
She gave me this evil look and said, "WHY are these FREE?"
I told her, "I won them online."
Then she started drilling me on WHERE I WON them online, how did I do it? Where did I go? How did I get them? And on and on.
Then, she was only going to let me use 1, because it was said one per purchase! Which means one per sandwich, good grief!
Finally she let me redeem them, but what a fuss!
WTH does she mean? The coupon clearly states ON FREE up to $4.10! She looked at me like I was a criminal or something for trying to use a coupon. Besides, it's a manufactures coupon, so it's not like it is a internet coupon that could have easily been abused.
Why do some cashiers treat customers who use coupons in such a rude manner? It always irritates me! By the way she was acting you would have thought I was shoplifting or something!
***I'm not saying all cashiers are evil, but so many of them are!

At my current store I have never experienced any problems with using coupons, on the contrary.
Sorry you had such grief. I think she just wanted to get herself some of those coupons online too LOL!
The information (where you got it from etc) is relevant because a lot of fraudulent coupons are "won" (quote unquote) online. They look like manufactures coupons but are really cleverly designed fakes, which the store looses money on. Which is why our store only accepts coupons from internet sources up to $1.00 and only from approved coupon-sites (i'll have to snag the list I forget most of them, since I have been in the fuel center for almost a year now). And cashiers get their butts ripped whenever they take a fraudulent coupon. Sounds like your cashier was just over anxious because of a prior ripping for taking internet coupons.
And we also have a coupon limit, regardless of what the coupon says we can only take up to 6 of the same coupons per order. It was something new that started company wide right before I transferred out to the fuel center.
If you have ever worked at a retail grocery store, you will know why it makes you evil. 75% of your customers treat you like you're subhuman and stupid for working at grocery store. Then your bosses are mean to you because you can't please every single customer (because some people won't stop until they get the item free even when they're dead wrong, such as outdated coupon, fraudulent coupon, they read the sign wrong etc and so on).
Currently I'm dreading going to work here in a few hours because it was insanely busy when I dropped Paul off to work. I know my boss is going to be evil and the customers are going to be hateful because I can't magically make more lines appear.
But really back on topic, most cashiers hate coupons because so many people abuse them. Sucks for people who use them legitimately (like you) but until you've worked in the environment you really don't know the crap we retail slaves deal with on a daily basis :0)
I totally understand where you are coming from, I really do! I hope you noticed my little disclaimer at the bottom of my post. :)
Really, I hate coupons. I want to cry when our store has super triple or double coupon week because the scammers come out of the woodwork. And it's those people everyone should be peeved at, not the poor cashiers who have to enforce the rules. We didn't come up with them, so don't shoot the messenger. :0)
Steakhouse Pepperjack and Buffalo Ranch Chicken sound SO good! I've only found 3 kinds here, 2 flatbreads and the Steakhouse cheddar. Want me to mail you one?! LOL!

I totally AGREE! It's insane what people will do and how they abuse the system, in return ruining it for everyone else!
I've had other cashier's question my coupons but in a nice way. I totally respect the cashier's for doing their jobs but they don't have to be mean, unless it's called for! :) I'm sure you are one of the nicest cashier's around! :)
And I also make people's fuel discounts disappear cause I'm evil like that and plan my day around ruining their shopping experience :0)
I'm just cynical today cause I don't want to go to work and deal with my male PMS'y boss today heh
How could you?!
I'm sorry you're dreading going to work today, stick something on his chair, it might make you feel better! LOL!
I agree with a lot of what Heather said, but I am sorry that you got the brunt of it.
Just like the woman in the doctors office who lied about me getting clearance from my cardiologist when I needed to get my shoulder fixed. I had to go through a cardiac catheterization to get the okay. She didn't realize I would just call the answering service and speak to the doctor about it. He has been my doctor for years and we have mutual friends in common. I believe she did it because she could, thinking she was the gateway to the doctor. Believe me, no one in that office has ever given me trouble again.
A lot of people don't really know what it takes to run a store, the overhead is sky high. When I was running the store up North, the gas bill alone was 45,000.00 a month. We didn't make that in a month. We were never ahead, the store was lucky to stay open as long as it did.
And if it is a conv. store, the lost of driveoffs, shoplifting and employee theft is quite high.
I am one of those evil clerks. If I don't recognize the coupon (we get a listing every month from our dealers) I will not accept the coupon. It is company rules...and my job.
And there are a bunch of fraudulent coupons from Kraft in circulation right now, there was a a big sign tonight by our timeclock to watch for them :)
CVS isi obviously the same way, but they have cashiers that will ring up every freebie item seperately and total them. Again, store policy - plus what it really says on the coupon - one per purchase.
She probably wanted to know where so she could win some herself. You should have offered to send her a referral to sign up!!
I have a lot of issues with cashiers reading coupons incorrectly, too.
And if they won't let you use them all at once, just walk each one out to your car one at a time and buy them separately. It's a pain in the rear, but I bet it ticks that cashier off enough that it's worth your time. ;)
They also do not say anywhere on the coupon ' limit one per purchase' as other coupons sometimes do. I have one in front of me at the moment and it does not say that at all.
And if the store has signed the redemption policy with kraft ( I suspect so or they would not be paid by Kraft) then they are obligated to follow Krafts policy and that policy states that they can not limit how many a costomer uses at one time. In fact if they accept any coupon from Kraft then they have signed an agreement with Kraft in order for them to be paid back for the coupons.
Krafts Policy also states
"11. Coupons are a form of cash and must be treated as such." ( And the store can not have there own policies that supercede the sponsers policy that they signed in order to get paid themselves. Know your rights and hold stores accountable for what they thenselves have signed. If you were using cash you would not be questioned when buying several items!!!!!!)
If your stores are limiting the coupons you can report them both to kraft and to the BBB as they signed an agreement with the manufacturere of the coupons and can not make there own policies that supercede these rules.
Furthermore # 16 says "16. You will ensure all your employees, agents and contractors
comply with this Policy."
so all of you guys out there if your store is limiting how many coupons you get they are violating the agreement they signed with Kraft to get reimbursed and if enough complaints are lodged against them they will lose the ability to be paid for any coupons.
"No Pay Status
"1. If you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this
Policy, if You are convicted of coupon fraud, or, if You, in KF’s
reasonable judgment, exhibit a pattern of misredeeming KF
coupons, your account will be placed on “No Pay” status. KF will
not honor any coupons attributable to, or submitted for, redemption
during such period in which your account is on “No Pay”
status. Your account will remain on “No Pay” status until such
time as KF determines, in the exercise of its reasonable judgment,
that your account should be reinstated to “Pay” status."
IF KF OR ITS AGENT (1) DETERMINES IN GOOD FAITH THAT A RETAILER
HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED OR REFUSED TO COMPLY WITH THIS POLICY,
OR HAS OTHERWISE DISREGARDED THIS POLICY, OR HAS FALSIFIED
INFORMATION SUPPLIED TO KF OR ITS AGENT, OR (2) RECEIVES
INFORMATION FROM STATE OR FEDERAL AUTHORITIES THAT
SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE EXISTS TO BRING CRIMINAL CHARGES AGAINST
A RETAILER FOR CONDUCT RELATING TO COUPON REDEMPTION
PRACTICES, THEN KF MAY TERMINATE SUCH RETAILER’S REDEMPTION
RIGHTS, EFFECTIVE UPON NOTICE TO THE RETAILER.
From my experience when you report the retailer to the BBB for having a policy that limits how many coupons they can use , they are repremanded and a notice from ythe BBB is sent to the company that issued the coupons and this time it would be Kraft, and the store could lose there ability to be paid, usually they change their store policy back to what the sponser of the coupon states in its own policy.
Sp please people be an informed costomer and respectfully demand your rights as a consumer and hold the establishments to the policies that they signesd themselves.
This is Krafts Policy that stores signed in its entirty
http://www.nchmarketing.com/us/rtlrel/MfrRedempPols/KraftRedemptionPolicy.pdf
Every major manufacture has stores sign similar agreements.
An informed consumer is a better consumer!
Especially in todays economy we must hold everyone accountable to the policies set forth by the manufacture of those coupons.
Unique wording... but I assume their intention is only one coupon can be used on the item indicated... i.e. the coupons cannot be stacked to produce an overage.
Evil customer
I just really hate the "Customer is always right" attitude because it assumes the Cashier is an idiot. No one is always right, I don't care who you are.
But rather than comendere Bridget's article I'll shut up now :)
