I received the Afrin PureSea campaign as a BzzAgent and was pretty excited about the prospect. That may sound a bit weird being that Afrin PureSea is a nasal rinse, but if you've suffered with allergies and sinus troubles as long as I have (since birth), you would understand.
I live in Oregon, which was I believe was the first state to require a prescription for over-the-counter allergy medicine that contained pseudoephedrine. Since Drixoral (yes Virginia, my beloved Drixoral contains pseudoephedrine) was suddenly on the banned list of medications at grocery stores without pharmacies, I decided to go the prescription route. I now take Allegra-D and inhale Flonase daily to combat sinus issues. Since even that isn't enough in the land of mold, pollen, weeds, dust, and every other possible lovely thing to make me sneeze, I tried using a neti pot at my husband's urging.
Nasal rinsing is becoming more popular in the West even though it has been practiced for centuries in other cultures. The first time I tried nasal rinsing was about a year ago using a neti pot. It definitely takes getting used to, but your sinuses feel incredibly clear after rinsing. With nasal rinsing, you clear out the particulates, pollutants and allergens that get trapped in the filter that is your nose.
Afrin PureSea is similar to the neti pot, but a lot more convenient. For one thing, with a neti pot you need to mix the an appropriate salt with warm water. You need to make sure the salt is mixed really well or the mixture can really sting your sinuses. With Afrin, the mixture is done for you. This is wonderful. One of the other benefits of Afrin is that it is 100% purified sea water.
My Afrin PureSea Bzzkit came with 1 bottle of Afrin PureSea, $3 off coupons for my friends, and the BzzGuide.
Afrin PureSea is available in Medium Stream, Gentle Mist, and Ultra-Gentle Mist. While the Medium Stream and Gentle Mist are safe for adults and children 2 years of age and older, the Gentle Mist can be used with children as young as 6 months old.
While I liked the product and found it preferable and more hygienic than the neti pot, the suggested retail price is $14.99 per 4 oz. bottle. It's safe to use the PureSea up to four times a day and if you have miserable sinuses, you can see that a 4 oz. bottle might not last you very long. How long the bottle will last will vary depending on how much you choose to rinse.
