I recently read a comment to an article posted about Iowa allowing gay marriage. Someone responded as the trouble with this allowance being, in part, that people are worried about others "violating the commandments of the Bible."
My response to that writer is as follows:
"Actually, if you do the research, the Bible only condemned homosexuality for the Nation of Israel in order to promote procreation and make it a large nation. After the appearance of Christ, this was no longer neccecary for, as Christians believe, the Israelites were no longer the "chosen people" of God. Yet, the tradition of heterosexual relationships carried on, despite dispute. Homosexuality was a common practice then. There were other aspects of Jewish law that were equally disputed, such as circumcision, and whether or not pork products were acceptable to eat. The answer to these questions was left upto a conscience matter, 'if you feel like there's something wrong in doing it, then don't do it. If not, then go ahead.'
It is interesting to not, that even in the case of Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, sodomy was not the true reason for the city's destruction. In fact, the more important issue, yes even bigger than that of homosexuality, was the inhospitality shown by the inhabitants of these cities, especially towards angels of God. That is the true reason. In fact, sodomy was never pin-pointed as the reason for the destruction of these cities until late in the first century when Christian historians campgained to keep homosexuality out of the relgion.
So it offends me when people say that homosexuality is "violating the instructions of the Bible." Especially when there are many commandments of the Bible that those condemning homosexuality violate themselves. As a former Jehovah Witness, I can list a great number of things that the average Christian does that is a direct violation of the Bible. What makes homosexuality so special?
It is nothing more than power-hungry men in the religious realm trying to hold onto tradition, removing and besmirching those who understand what is acceptable and what isn't.
So, before you tell me that I'm violating the Bible for being gay, let me ask you: Do you engage in premarital sex? Do you have a tattoo? Do you accept blood transfusions? Do you watch movies promoting witchcraft, sex, drug abuse, theft, murder, greed, etc.? Then you have violated Bible teachings as well.
I believe there is a scripture that says something along the lines of you trying to remove a pice of straw from your neighbor's eye when, in fact, there is a rafter in yours. Remove the rafter from your eye, then I might let you help me get the straw out of mine."
I invite any and all to read the book "Prayers for Bobby" by Leroy Aarons if they wish to know more about what I have just said. It may just educate you.

Do you seriously believe that as a gay person, there is a "straw in your eye" ?
You have to believe in sins to perform one.
And ... so many people think they are hiding behind the Bible to hide their bigotry.
Or you might just read my post of a while back: Homosexuality Is an Abomination: Leviticus. Eryne, I suggest that you read it; you will not find what you think that you will find.
