Blah..ITs mothers day....

I know, I know, its mother's day, I should be happy and excited.

However, this year I have decided to prepare myself to be dissapointed.

I can honestly say I have never felt that "this was my special day"

I am treated like it is any other normal day, still have to clean, still have to cook, still have things demaned of me.

Errgggg..

My ideal perfect mothers day would include, sleeping in first off, and waking up to breakfest in bed, taking my time eating and showering, and then working in my garden the rest of the day. (and not tending to any of my childrens or husbands needs or wants!!!)

I really dont think thats too much to ask.

Anyone else feeling unappreciated today?

Yes I do feel the same as you but for once this year I got to sleep in since my kids are at my mother's house. But no mater what always have to do the normal "chores". A Happy mother's day to you though even though it is not as special as it should be.

My youngest child just made me breakfast and gave me some very nice gifts. There is nothing anyone can do to ruin the day for me. Last year my younger son sent me a cookie gram and that surprised me. I have learned over the years not to expect as you surely will be disappointed..

I hope they surprise you today. Being a mother is not the most appreciated job in the world, but we love them anyway.

I think all holidays are a tad icky because they come with such glorious expectations of what a perfect day would be. There's no way you can't be let down, and left wondering who out there had that perfect day ... so you're left feeling jealous and bitter.

T Cheri P. : I hope your day is filled with joy and laughter.
Because, that makes it easier to do the real job--create our own happiness.

Find some things to think are wonderful today.
Maybe take some chocolate to the family waiting room at the local children's hospital?
You'd be making some mother, perhpas less lucky than you today--feel so much better.

THAT's how we teach our children to love us...

Listen up! Here's something I've learned from counseling and through reflecting back on my life........we teach people how to treat us by how we allow them to treat us. If we want changes, we have to demand it - not in a loud, obnoxious way - but there is a way. Every mom should go on a mom's day strike.

Think about it!
1 - What is the worst that could happen if you sleep in?
2 - What is the worst that could happen if you don't fix breakfast?
3 - What is the worst that could happen if you insist on this being YOUR day of rest and relaxation - doing what YOU want to do???

Put a DO NOT DISTURB sign on your bedroom door because mom DESERVES a day of rest.

Put a note on the fridge saying FULL SERVICE KITCHEN NOW SERVING TO THOSE WHO SERVE THEMSELVES......CHEF IS ON VACATION.

If family members choose to not abide by these mother's day rules, then they will just have to be hungry, but do you really think they'll go hungry? They'll eat and guess what? IT IS NOT YOUR JOB TO DO EVERYTHING!!! It really isn't. It's YOUR day. YOU choose. :-)

For years my mother-in-law sort of demanded that we do whatever she wanted on Mother's Day. We didn't live in the same town, and we spent every Mother's Day going to see her, and she never once acknowledged that I was also a mom and that maybe I just wanted to stay home. I used to get so angry on Mother's Day. My mom has sent me a Mother's Day gift every year since I became a mom, which I think is so sweet. I finally started taking a day ahead of time to visit my MIL, and now I actually feel as if I can enjoy the day.

I'd say it is time for you to tell your family what you will be doing today. They won't starve, the house won't fall apart. You may not get breakfast in bed-but, if you want to work in the garden all day-do it! Sometimes we have to make our own joy, and they may just learn a lesson from that.

Happy Mother's Day to you. I felt that way when I was married to a control freak. At least then, when my kids were little, they would fix me breakfast in bed and clean some. Although the breakfast was usually burnt, scraped off cold toast, soggy cereal and eggs fried till they were brown, to make sure they were done, lol it was very special to me. I looked forward to it. Now my kids are grown and they have families of their own, so I do understand they want a special day too, but a small gift of appreciation, even a card would be nice. I do get telephone calls from them which is good but maybe I am being greedy. Guess I too am feeling a little low today. I still get my mother a big hanging basket of flowers every year and a card and stop over to see her at least for a few minutes I am very fortunate to still have her here with me.

I canceled mother's day in my house, for some of the exact same reasons you said.............I told my kids that I would not observe mother's day again until they started treating me with some respect.

Yes I do feel that way. I have two teenagers that seem to disrespect me and not follow the rules. My son really did something that upset me. He stole $100 out of my wallet. I can't tell you how angry I was. Not because of the money but because I know I raised him not to do such a thing and yet he did. My husband doesn't seem to understand that Mother's day is about me not him. The only smile to the day is my two year old Hunter.

Oh yeah...I still had to cook dinner....and hubby didn't even take the kids out to get me a card...or even buy one and have them sign their names.
