While having a 16 month old and a 6 month old (both girls), I have had a pregnancy scare for awhile now, so I decided to ask them to test for pregnancy during my E.R. visit today. I told them a friend told me about a possibly ectopic pregnancy when having the I.U.D., but the dr from the E.R. visit told me that it is VERY RARE to get pregnant while having an I.U.D., but if it happens, they will pull the I.U.D. out. I asked her if I happen to be pregnant, would the urine test come back normal for an ectopic pregnancy as well as a normal pregnancy? And she told me yes, it will be a negative or a positive. And if it was a positive (or pregnant), then they would have an ultrasound to determine whether it was an ectopic pregnancy. Well, the man came back with my discharge forms, appearing normal, and I asked him "So, am I pregnant?," and with his reaction, I assumed I wasn't. He told me I was not pregnant and gave me my prescriptions (I assume if I was, the dr would have changed the prescriptions to different ones, especially the pain killer).
So, I'm not pregnant and this is good news! And the friend of mine told me that ectopic pregnancies can be very dangerous and you can die, so I was really scared and this is very good news for me. If I was pregnant though, which I was scared I was previously, I was just hoping for a normal, healthy pregnancy, but since I'm not, I have nothing to worry about and I assume the I.U.D. is working well for me. I'm still worried and scared about the I.U.D. though and ectopic pregnancies and am worried whether I should keep the I.U.D. in to prevent pregnancy.
