Buried in my blankets
I listened to the rain
and watched the drops
come down my window screen.
In a brief but gifting way,
they distracted me
from the paralizing sorrow
that sent me to my bed.
I reminded myself to breathe
and it felt like a hard and heavy work.
Wasecgen, you have my attention,
as much as I am able to give,
you have my attention.

Come, Crying Wind
My sister summoned her friend and gave me time.
As she waited, she poured every rain she had.
She poured an angry rain, a fearful rain,
a slow and deeply aching, sorrowful rain.
She opened her skies, she opened my chest
and opened a body of watery pain that I had kept for so long.
The Crying Wind blew hard, so very hard.
It shook my window, it shook my house and through the pounding rain,
I could see that it was shaking the alders like twigs.
I sobbed and thrashed until finally no more tears would come.
The pounding rain softened to gentle drops on my screen once again
and I thought I could see a bit of light coming through the trees.
I grabbed my camera for that moment would surely pass.
I wanted to remember for a very long time.

Kiwenmokwe
The clouds are going away.

The wind has shaken the dust off your leaves.

Come again...
Wasecgen is Potawatomi for window. The day happened just as you read. I caught that very moment in a photo. I share this with my friends.
