Went to KFC to redeem my coupon for the free 2 piece grilled chicken meal and there was a sign on the door saying that they were giving out rain checks. I went in any way (a big mistake) to see what the story was. There was this lady in line who was complaining to the people behind her about the false advertising and then she said that they were giving out vouchers to mail in with your coupon so KFC will then mail you another coupon to use at a later date.
When I asked the clerk about the coupon she handed me a voucher and here is what it said:
Rain Check Policy from KFC
We are so sorry, but due to the overwhelming response to our FREE Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal coupon, we can no longer redeem the free coupon at this time. But we will honor our commitment to giving you a free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal. Please visit a participating KFC restaurant for a rain check form. Complete the form, attach your original coupon, and give it to the KFC restaurant manager or postmark per the form's instructions, by May 19, 2009, and we'll send you a rain check for your free Kentucky Grilled Chicken meal at a later date, plus a free Pepsi with our compliments. Your participating KFC restaurant will provide you with the form you need. Please note that the redemption periods of the rain checks will vary. All other terms and conditions of the original free Kentucky Grilled Chicken coupon will apply. Thank you for your understanding,
Roger Eaton
KFC President
Since I was there and I really wanted to try the grilled chicken, I bought the meal that was supposed to be free for $5.39 (this was my mistake, I should have walked out). What a dope I am, but I guess KFC got exactly what they wanted; to bring people in and once you're in and smelling that chicken you buy it. I know the lady that was complaining about the false advertising bought chicken too.
As I'm sitting here typing this, an ad came on TV from KFC saying what I posted above. Tell me what you think of all of this and if you fell victim to KFC like I did.

I think this whole campaign was a big mistake for KFC's ad agency. Nowhere in the process did it ask for registration information (a big mistake for a company that should be developing its online database, rather than fractionalizing it). The rain check idea is a decent one for collecting that information on the back-end, but in my view the company should eat its advertising agency's mistake. Users downloaded the coupon based upon the written contract/requirements on the unthinkkfc.com site. KFC should honor its end of the deal.
I had problems even printing the coupon. The first time I clicked on the Print Coupon button, it told me I had printed the maximum amount. I tried a couple of times with the same result. I was ticked off. I wrote to the company about the problem, but never heard anything.
Thanks for you comment Nancy. KFC sure did have major problems with this ad campaign. It's too bad because they disappointed a lot of people.
I got to use two of mine but never went back with the other two
Good for you Amy. You were one of the luck ones.
I didn't buy a thing. :) Got my voucher and walked out.
You were the smart one Amanda!
