Launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis on mission STS-125 is just around the corner. Liftoff is on Monday, May 11th, 2009 at 2:01 PM EST.This will be the Final servicing mission to the Hubble Space Telescope, which has been in orbit since 1990.
Ever since the Columbia STS-107 accident, NASA has required that another orbiter be on standby in the event that a rescue launch would be needed. Thus, Space Shuttle Endeavour is sitting ready on the other launch pad as a precaution. This will be the last time that both Launch Pads are occupied at the same time.
These pictures are from the NASA website but I am hoping to take some of my own this Saturday. My Dad, brother, and I will be going fishing at the Indian River. We will be able to see the Vehicle Assembly Building as well as the launch pads. On Monday, I will be viewing the launch from home (Grrrrrrr...) which is about 30 miles away.
