Joan Crawford's hair - "helmet hair"

In 1972, Joan made her last acting performance in an episode of the TV Show, The Sixth Sense.  She is a psychic (who doesn't yet know it) until she is very terrorized by fashionably groovy but satanic young people (one dark and stormy night) so much so that her eyes get very wide.  I saw the show, I had a lousy dub of it on VHS (remember those) - and it's still hard to remember.

I've heard those big round obvious wigs called "helmet hair" - ha ha

This will be my first post to my new group Gutter Girls !!! Woot - I'm a Gather Gutter Girl !!!

My Mom still wear's a wig like that =/ I would never tell her she had Helmet hair though...Trust me..She does know how to swing a wire hanger =p

My mom wore a helmet wig. It looked better than Joan's though. Joan looks like something landed on her head. LOL!

I'm just as amused with her starchy looking outfit. Shoulder pads & huge lapels...WOW! I'll bet the fabric was completely uncomfortable. It was probably made out of wool or polyester.

That was a popular "do". Not necessarily a wig either! I remember sleeping in curlers and laquering the hair till it didn't move!

My mother played Joan crawford's french maid in "The Women". Check her out in the scene with Joan in the bath! "Madame has be soaking for three hours!" was her line and it came out "sucking"!!
