Death Can Lead To Greener Pastures

Someday soon, the grass may be greener for people laid to rest in certain cemeteries around the country.

These cemeteries offer the dearly departed a chance to be buried without being embalmed, in a biodegradable casket, (most made of willow or seagrass) with no concrete grave liner or a traditional cut or polished headstone.

In the natural burial section, visitors will not see artificial flowers, ornaments or other grave decorations.

Headstones will be natural rocks--only.

Wildflowers and grasses will grow over the graves, eventually returning the area to its natural habitat.

Oh, green burials can cost 25 percent to 75 percent less than a traditional burial, depending on family preferences.

Wow! That is truely awesome. I had decided I wanted to be creamated because I don't like that when you are buried you take up so much space that can never be used by anyone again. It seems selfish to me.
Now this is a second option to consider! And with a more affordable price it's something that shouldn't be refused.

That is interesting. I have never heard of this.
=) That is a much needed improvement, but like Alex I have also opted to be cremated.

I always told hubby to till me under in the garden, but that is against the law. LOL! Just fire up the old furnace. It's cheaper and I never liked being cold anyway.

LOL you sound like me J F. I can't see spending thousands and thousands. I'd be happy put in my garden also. Although the landlord might see things differently. ;)

I have heard of something similar to this. The deceased is buried in a forest. I have told my children that my wish is to be cremated. Each will receive some of my ashes to take to a place that I once enjoyed with them. This way they can think of me when they return to that place.

This is a good idea, but I don't see it going on here anytime soon.

When my dad misbehaves, I threaten to send him to the Body Farm where they do forensic research.

I see that they are even trying to capitolize on the green burial. There is a green cemetary near here and you are buried directly into the earth without any type of casket. You pay only for the plot and to have someone do the digging.

I am sure those in the funeral business are not happy about this. I remember when my sister passed away and they told us about all of these regulations that required us to pay for all of this crap that wasn't really necessary. The funeral ended up costing $13,000. Now we know that those so called regulations were a bunch of crap and funeral directors we were dealing with were a bunch of crooks.

This has been going on in some areas already I think I heard about it at least more than 5 years ago on a tv news story.
