I don't want to be a diamond...
I'm too afraid to shine.
So much brilliance blinds me,
makes me lose my head,
makes me stumble down the road
knocking on strange doors,
believing every pearly word
as shadows chase me down
creeping up behind me,
a blade to my back.
I don't want to be a diamond
I'd rather be a stone;
nothing special to look upon,
strong, steady and sure...
desired for what is deep inside,
rather than my lustre,
chased by those
who are not swayed
by a bit of shine.
I don't want to be a diamond.
for it blinds this heart of mine.

Yes, she is, John!
Blessings and best wishes - S.
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate,
our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child
of God. Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other
people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to
make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously
give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others."
We need to shine as brightly as we can. Not for attention, but for our own light to be shared. My opinion, of course.
The JustMe comment gave me chill bumps. Powerful stuff.
Its really a very brilliant poem in many ways - perhaps the best i have read of yours.
not wanting too much glow
keeping the depth of souls
up and ready to go
Good stuff, Cheryl
A very intersting write Cheryl, one that leads to reflection - subtle and clever metaphor.
