I am very blessed. I was born to one mother, adopted by another, and taken in by another when I married my second husband. And I have been blessed to be a mother myself.
My birth mom was just 17, and my biological father was in his 20s, and did not treat her very well, or me when I arrived. She hemmed and hawed, but felt the best thing for me was to make the difficult decision to let someone else raise me.
I was adopted on Valentine's Day when I was two years old. My mom has been there for me through everything. As she gets older, after a heart attack and a stroke, I am finding that often I need to be there for her. But she is still the strong woman she has always been!
As far as mother-in-law's go, mine has her moments when she gets on my nerves (and I'm sure the feeling is mutual!). But I really lucked out. Not only did she raise up a good man to be my husband, but most of the time she is supportive and friendly. I consider her to be my mom as well.
The best thing about my moms? Each of them is unique, and offers me important lessons about being a good mom to my own kids! Happy Mother's Day to each of them, to me, and to all the other moms here on Gather.
