Or I put it on Pandora.com and let it pick songs for me, depending on which artist I type in to start the playlist. I love that website because it introduces me to music I've never heard of before that's similar to artists I already like.

I listen to it while doing all kind of every day stuff like folding laundry, reading or playing with my toddler, doing the dishes... you know, every day stay at home mom type stuff. I've got pretty good speakers on my computer too.

Anything that's peppy improves my mood. I'm not a big work-out fan though so yeah, there's no songs I like to exercise to. Now if I had an MP3 player I'd use that while going for walks but I'd rather talk to my son while doing that, ha.

That's about it -- hope to catch everyone at the chat today.

I don't think I can be there, but I will add my two cents anyway. Music is something that commands my attention, so I never have it on "just in the background" EXCEPT when I am exercising. Then I feel like it really boosts my energy level, pumping me up to get through the hard spots. Of course, one needs lively music for that, but even something "with a good beat" (sorry for the cliche) can get me exercising in a good rhythm.

Christine, you are my MusicSister! I was thinking exactly *that* when I read your post. One of my writing gigs is as a music journalist. I don't approach music as a filler, but as the main meal. When I listen to music, it's almost always very intentional and commands my full attention.

Except in the car. I listen to music in the car, but I also dance while driving (as much as safely possible) or play air-fiddle (as opposed to air-guitar) or direct with my imaginary baton.

World music is in my car's CD player at the moment. Rough Guides and Putumayo are excellent resources for introductions to other music. And Faith has a great idea of Pandora.com.

i probably can only make the first 10 min. as my son has a lax game today... but wanted to say that i love songs that you can dance to.... it makes cleaning the house or baking easier....

I love many songs from the 60's and 70's. 'It's a beautiful morning..."

I'm here :) I like upbeat music with a strong beat to get my legs moving. Slow music might be nice, but I'll fall asleep to it. If I really want to get myself moving, I put on something really lively -- techno is great, for one -- and turn it up loud. I think it drowns out the whining in my own head. :)

My husband, Nic, sent me a song a few weeks ago. He is over in Iraq and one of his buddies had the song on his computer. It's Bill Withers 'Lovely Day'.
"When I wake up in the morning, love
and the sunlight hurts my eyes,
something without warning, love
bears heavy on my mind.
then I look at you, and the world's alright with me
Just one look at you, and I know it's gonna be
A lovely day."

I thought it was adorable that it made him think of me, so I downloaded it to my Blackberry and I turn it on whenever I'm feeling a bit down and lonely. I think my grandmother, who I'm staying with right now, is getting sick of me singing it around the house.

***What are your favorite songs to get you motivated?

I really LOVE The Killers. I listen to them almost constantly when I am doing things. I find their music to be everything all at once. Love it. I listen to it while working, while sunning....good stuff.

* Which songs improve your mood?
Any kind of music can really improve the mood because it helps bring me out of myself.

* Which songs do you like to workout to?
I don't listen to music while I'm on the treadmill because I run at varying speeds, and a song with low beats per minutes can wreak havoc with your brain if you are listening to close. When I do a DVD they usually have music already in them. Amy Bento's DVDs are the best for having really great music that coordinates with the workouts.

* Which songs motivate you to get off the couch and finish your to-do's?

I don't need music for this. The thought of not being able to pay bills is enough for me!

Just stopped by for a moment, I love to have music on when I write plays. The funny thing is that I'm not usually a country music kind of girl except when I'm writing plays. I think it's because the songs are a reminder that I'm telling a story.

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE my 70's Rock Anthems CD!! Funny, since I was born in 1984 - but I grew up listening to those songs in the truck with my Dad when I was little. It always puts me in a good mood and motivates me to get moving.

Something really great to listen to is from a course by Jose Silva. Silva UltraMind. There is this guided meditation-like where you listen to the "Alpha Sound." This is very soothing and rejuvenating! There was a free download of this meditation available for a long time as a sampler.

Last month, my cousin died after a relatively short battle with cancer. On the way over there for the funeral, I started to have a panic attack, but didn't have my meds with me. I put that song on, cranked it, and forced myself to sing along to it. It didn't stop it like my meds would, but it really brought me out of the panic attack.

I use Playlist.com to make playlists online to play from my CPU. Here's a link to my profile:

http://www.playlist.com/princessspankypants

I have lots of different music I like, so I create play lists based on the type of music, so I can pick one based on what I am in the mood to listen to.

Right now, I'm listening to my "FUN" mix. Lady Gaga- Just Dance.

How can you hate country? Most music is based on country. Many people don't realize that a lot of song today were actually songs from the 1930's. Many musicians of all genres will say one of their biggest influences was country.

I am with you on the rap though. I don't like Gangsta rap

• Which songs motivate you to get off the couch and finish your to-do's? I don’t think I’ve ever consciously let music do that

80s music is fun. I listen to all genres and eras. Since I'm old, that includes Oscar and Hammerstein show tunes, Big Band music, Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull, and a host of jazz and country artists. A little R&B and Hip-Hop/Rap.

Yes...I do when I'm in the truck and running kids everywhere. I also do when I'm doing some housework. And when I was still able to run/jog, I'd listen all the time.

D.D - I love music from all eras. I have to say the 60's and early 70's are probably my favorite though.

Dagmara, I suggest the Pointer Sisters for good workout music. Also some heavy drum music from Kitaro.

We've been listening to all kinds of 80's songs here...LOL. It started out as a joke, so I could try and embarass Christopher. It didn't work, and the kids actually like the songs.

Girls Just want to Have Fun, Call Me, Walking on Sunshine, Holding out for a Hero, and Walk Like an Egyptian are amoung Angela's favorites
