What Do You Feed Your Dog? Try Something New - Free!
When my dog was a puppy I started her on IAMS Puppy Food. I then read about the nutritional quality of food and how it is related to the immune system of the dog. The same goes for us humans but I will not go there in this post. Well, my puppy, Foxy, had "puppy" mange passed down from her mother. It was not getting better so I simply changed her diet. No medicine. I first fed her Bil-Jac after IAMS and her mange went away within 2 weeks! Then she got spoiled, because of me, and now eats Royal Canin. Because My Foxy Was Poisoned by a treat product and would not eat for a couple of days on my 2nd visit to the vet he gave her some wet food and Foxy ate it up in a couple of seconds! So, I now spoil her and put a little wet food in her dry food every day which amounts to 1 can a week.
I would like to make an important note that even though you are paying more for a dog food; if it is nutritionally sound you end up feeding the dog less and end up paying about what you were on the cheaper food. My dog is worth it. I have already received the below sample a couple of weeks ago and will try it soon.
I noticed that they had run out but it is available again only while supplies last!
This free sample is for Rachel Ray Nutrish dog food.
It has the following qualities:
-Real meat as the first ingredient
-No fake ingredients, by-products or fillers
-All natural ingredients - no preservatives or artificial flavors

I did get the free rachel ray sample though. I mixed it in with my rats food. -grin-
LOL, good thinking in mixing it with the rats food! Foxy didn't want to finish her sample and probably for good reason!
I also feed a higher brand dog food. I worked at a Pharmasutical Company for a few years. One day the Suits were there, there was much chatter about a problem with a food for dogs and cats, that could potentially cost the company alot of money! Then a few months later domestic animals ended up with kidney failure and other problems. Since then I really research everthing before I give it to my animals!
Thanks for adding to this discussion. We do need to be so careful with what we buy for our pets and ourselves.
My dog had some samples for the Nutro holistic and she went bonkers for it, no wet food needed! When we were at the pet store she wouldn't stop sniffing the bags of Lamb and Rice!
Sorry to hear about your pup having to go through that and you having to fork over so much money. I am glad that she got her hair back! My neighbor is going through the same thing with her dog. The hair around the dog's eyes was gone but now regrowing.
That is great, I am glad that you have a dog food that works great for him! I have been giving Foxy a cod liver blend and vitamins for dogs. It improved her health and her coat.
I only know of Wal-mart carrying Nutrish. It is interesting how dog's have such different taste just like us humans!
She/he is a cute rotten cat at that!

4 rotten cats? We don't want any of that in here! ;o)
It didn't make Foxy sick but she didn't even eat half of the sample and she wouldn't go to it. I ended up throwing it out.
Sounds like Foxy is a smart dog.

Aunt Shanny: Thanks for the detailed information. Interesting information. I switched to Bil-Jac at one time because of more nutrition/protiien and now I am wondering if Royal Canin is all that great for Foxy. She is doing well with it but as a I mentioned I am putting a 1/4 of canned food in her dry food just so she will eat it now!Yes it is a lot of work and I know about not having the energy! Thank you for adding so much to this discussion! I appreciate all the great info.
That is real sweet that you do that for your dog!
Thank you. After the last terrible scare I had with him at the vet's I would rather be safe then sorry.
Interesting. Thanks for passing this on. I would like to note that Foxy tried the sample and ate less than half of it and would not touch the rest! As for Nutro holistic samples, she gobbled those down like she wasn't going to eat for a month! I had a dream that when I went to Rachel Ray's website there would be a recall for her dog food. I checked, no recall but it was a scary dream since Foxy ate some of the food. I am glad it was just a dream but I will not be feeding Foxy Nutrish. After I am done with Royal Canin I am switching to something my dog will actually eat: Nutro
Funny dream and excellent discussion!
Thanks for adding to the discussion and I believe you did spell the food correctly!
Black Gold
I have never heard of this brand. What store do you purchase it from?
Actually, up to about two months ago, I was feeding him Solid Gold, but it's kind of expensive, and you can get that in almost any major pet store, but the vet I take my dog to sells Black Gold, and it's not quite as nutritional but it's about $5 less expensive, so I've been getting it from him. I haven't seen it in the pet stores, though.
LOL, goes with the name "Solid Gold", huh? I checked out the website and it says made in America and no ingredients from China. Looks to be a real good product even if it is somewhat less nutrional from what you used to feed. Thanks for adding to the discussion and sharing a new product I have never heard of - my vet sells Royal Canin.
Hi: I'm new to this group and in fact to this website. I'm getting late onto this topic. I have sent away for this sample of dog food. In fact, I'm looking at the package now as I type this. The problem with this food starts with the first five ingredients. Those ingredients are corn meal and soybean meal and then further down the list is corn gluten meal. I never feed my dogs any food with wheat, corn or soy. There can be too many digestive problems for the dog. They can't digest corn. Soy is too gas producing. I own three German Shepherd Dogs and they are known for having digestive problems with things like bloat, and torsion to name a couple of problems. It states on the package of food that it contains wholesome grains. Dogs don't need grains. They are meat eaters. Just my opinion about this food.
