Kelly, I just wanted to briefly mention that the site you refer us to does not contain any information on the individual tax credits. Indeed, I spoke directly to the IRS a while ago while covering the rebate check offering. These are direct tax credits, and according to the IRS's own filing instructions do not have to be paid back -- ever.
As a method of comparison, I would compare the site you referred me to to The Onion, a somewhat-off-kilter news spoof site. I'm sorry to say that, in both cases, the stories hold very little basis in actual fact.
I hopes this helps put things into perspective for you Kelly. I'd hate for you to have to worry about these things.
P.S. Thank you Kimberly for posting this link. I'm adding it in to a blog I'm doing for another site to perfectly illustrate my point. $100 million is soooo small after all and I appreciate you calling to our attention how much farther federal budget cutting needs to go.
On a related now, however, today CNN reported that those currently getting Social Security Benefits will be getting a separate SSI "spending stimulus" payment of $250. The CNN anchor reported that that money will have to be paid back next year. That is not good news for those that can least afford it.
Looks like that spending stimulus check might just have to go into an interest-bearing savings account to ensure these retirees will be able to pay it back next year. So much for the spending incentive....
