Memories Make My Day
By David Wainland
The time has come
To change my style
And talk about things
That make me smile
About bubble gum
And Cracker Jacks
The flowers that grew
Between the cracks
Mom's favorite broom
Made a stickball bat
Your favorite team's
Emblem upon your hat
Pitching copper pennies
Or marbles clear
A new yo-yo string
You hold so dear
A two cents plain
Or foaming egg cream
Captain Video's decoder
Of them I still dream
Sunday's radio shows
Were always fun
Lone Ranger and Tonto
Forever on the run
Good Humor trucks
Drove all about
Kids holding a dime
Please stop, they shout
Roof tar that melted
Beneath your shoes
Memories of youth
You'll never lose
There's no more time
For me to mourn
Of things gone by
Or thoughts unborn
For thouhgts of the past
This I have to say
Memories of these
Still make my day

It is still available at most fountains in the city
sometimes embraces me
takes me in a ride
on a tame horse
over a smooth road.
Excellent poetry.
Two wise men
This is so wonderfully done. A great trip down memory lane.
Sigh.
Thanks for posting to my group, Anythingwriting
Nostalgic and sweet!
