Wow, we hit 91 yesterday afternoon. It was H.O.T. I am very glad that I have an A/C in my tiny little office in this house. Otherwise I am sure I would not have been able to work!
I did a lot of gardening work on Sunday, including planting my garden in peat pots to start the seeds. I planted tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, salad cucumbers, onions, carrots, radishes, mesclun, watermelon, cantalope, peas and green beans. Outside I planted a ton of sunflowers in my front yard. I am hoping they will grow and provide my front porch with shade, and then the heads I will use for birdseed through the winter. I went to check on my seeds after work last night and all 6 of my green bean plants are sprouting as well as 2 pea plants. I was shocked, as I didn't germinate the seeds. I thought it would take 3-4 days at least, not overnight! I plan to get some pictures, when there is something to take pictures of lol.
It was way too hot to go for a long walk with Datz last night, and too hot to let him run like crazy, so we decided to bring him to the farm but to stay near the pond so he could cool off when he needed to. Well when we got there, Mike's cousin Steve was there, with his 3 dogs! They are so funny, two are great big black labs, and the third is a tiny Minipin. I've never seen a dog so small! He weighs just 2 lbs! That's smaller then ALL of my cats!
Datz had never met these dogs before so I was a little worried. But as you can see, they got along just fine! They engaged in several games of "Chase me" and some doggie races, and some good old fashioned romping near the pond!
After the three other dogs left (I think their names are Fiona, Stony and... the minipin is named Little lol), Datz and Sparky and Mike and I went around the lower pastures so we could get a little walking in. Sparky found a rabbit and chased it! Datz wanted to follow him so badly, but Sparky is short enough to fit under the fence, and Datz isn't! So he had to be content with watching :-)
I kept bringing the dogs back to the pond to cool off and they loved it. Ugh, my dog wants to be a farm dog soooo badly. We are hoping that one day soon, we will be able to buy some of the farm land, and build a house. We haven't mentioned that to anyone in the family, as right now we have no means. But when the time is right, the opportunity may present itself, and we will be ready. We'd like to keep all the land in the family, so if anyone is going to sell any (the farm is divided up between four family members), we'll offer to buy it. Probably 5-10 years from now at the earliest lol. But I enjoy thinking ahead :-).

We came home and gave Datz his doggy ice cream to futher cool off and then spent the evening watching some TV and eating dinner. I have decided to eat macrobiotically as much as I can. So I am making an effort to go to the store each day and pick up fresh stuff for dinner. Last night we had steak kabobs and roasted veggies. WOW was it good!
How was your evening? What did you end up doing? Anything to cool off from the heat if you are in this heat wave?
Look how much daddy adores his puppy!

And these are just some random pictures of the farm. This is the barn:

I heard the cooler weather will be coming back soon.
I used those peat pots to start some stuff with the kids but I'm not sure how it works so hopefully everything comes out right! This is my first time giving gardening a shot. I want to avoid using the yard because our soil is sooo bad so I want to stick with containers but they grow out of them so fast and then I don't know what to do with them.
I don't know what germinating is but if your plants are already growing that sounds good! I planted some sunflower seeds for a project the other day and they started sprouting this morning. We also have tons of sunflowers growing in the yard because I don't do anything with them and the seeds go everywhere. We started with one and now we have at least a dozen! I planted some tomato seeds yesterday so I don't know how soon they will show up, if at all. You will have so many fresh things to eat!!!
The dogs did look like they were having a blast. Datz is just a blur of happy dog! Little is VERY little! Two of our neighbors have dogs named D-O-G. Funny because both families had the dogs before they moved in.
I would love to have a lot of land. Maybe not that much because I know how much work it would be. But I wish we had a place for the kids to run run run! Yesterday the kids helped me plant some tomato seeds then later they played in the yard and the alley while I hid inside! Once it got dark it was cooler outside than in but House was on so I had to stay in. The kids didn't want to come inside. They are going to have lots of fun this summer!
for some reason Gather is not letting me view pics/videos :( sounds like fun tho
these are great photos. It got into the 90's in southern Indiana yesterday also. It is 91 right now.
Nice photo essay Pamela. it is very hot here too
Wow, I like your farm and all of your animals! And I love all the big trees. It is 93 here and will be hotter tomorrow. I hate this time of the year, and the humidity makes it seem so much worse. I hope the bluebird babies can stay cool.... by the way, new photos have been posted!!! ;)
I saw them Carol!!! Way too cool!
Thanks for visiting!
Just dropping in to say thanks for visiting me and having a chat now and then. I have been through all your articles and photos before. So have a wonderful day.
Thanks Norma!!!
summertime can be ruff ruff!! beautiful pictures, great looking dogs!!
I love the pics of the dogs. Has the whole summer been hot for you, or was it just a fluke spring heatwave? Where I live, it's been unseasonably cool. Throughout June and July we've had thunderstorms more days than not, and even now that the sun is out, it's only hitting around 80 -- and that's just fine by me! I seriously dislike heat.
