Well, it's official, my oldest child is a teenager. Aside from that, I did not sleep well last night. I woke up several times, including when my mother called at 6am. Yes, 6am. The cats kept running in, and jumping from us on the bed, to the window.
I just could not get a good nights sleep. My head aches today from it. Now that the windows are open, the trains are loud. VERY loud. It's amazing how much sound a piece of glass blocks out. The trains are amped up right now- we're hearing them 5 or 6 times a night.
Most of them run to the GM plant, which is apparently one of the few aiming to stay open. It sounds like they're taking on the work of several other ones that are shutting down, including one other Lansing area GM plant. So, they're shipping and moving a lot more product to the nearby plant right now, so a lot more trains.
Raegan has been asking me for weeks if she could stay home on her birthday today. Gilly's birthday is 2 days after Christmas- she never has school. For Chris, we woke up on his birthday to -15 degree weather, so I kept him and Gilly home (Nick had already dropped Raegan off that day, or she'd have stayed home as well) on his birthday.
Because Rae has only missed 1 and a half days this whole school year, I decided to let her stay home- but not tell her. I left a card taped to the front of her lunch sack to find, and wrote inside of it that she had a get out of school free pass to use for 1 day. She's opted for today, as I knew she would.
Anyway, I need to get dressed.

Happy birthday Rae
Happy Birthday, Raegan! I hope you have a good day off from school.
Those teenage years are an adventure!
i alway let my kids pick 2 days provided their school work was good and no tests that day, to stay home and we would go spend some quiet time together
I too did not get much sleep last night. It has been so windy here, and all the sounds just kept waking me up.
Happy Birthday Rae!
What a big moment for you, too, Heather...mommy's little girl is a teen...another milestone :)
Why would your mother call at 6? Different timezone? We had that problem with Hubby's ex-wives, when we lived in AZ.
Good for Rae, getting a day off, and I love the way you planned it. I usually got days off in highschool, because my birthday fell during exam week. I was always lucky enough never to have an exam on my birthday.
I don't want to think about my kids becoming teens. I still have a few years left, though sometimes they act like they think they are teenagers.
Happy birthday Rae!!
We have a train that runs at all hours nearby. They just love to blow that whistle at 4am. I like trains- they look cool, I like that whistle. But NOT at 4am!
Sorry you didn't get much sleep. maybe you can catch up on it later.
