Probably not, but there is a chitter chatter about Texas seceding from the Union. Abraham Lincoln would be rolling in his top hat. As Obama so often likes to compare himself to the greatness of Abraham Lincoln, I find little comparison save here: Civil War.
Texans are not the same as they were in the 1860's. Many want the comfort and safety of living in the United States, but as things stand with Obama, many Texans are not feeling very comfortable, or safe.
Oklahoma is were I'm from and we proudly didn't vote for Obama or his socialist programs. So, would we follow?
Just interesting to think about.
Here's a site for more information on Texas Secession. I've heard numbers bandied about like 25% of Texans, and 51% of Republicans in Texas favor secession. I think they favor discussing it, but whatever the truth, it tells the tale, that not everyone in this country thinks Obama is on the right track, and many don't want to partake in the pleasures of the left. (Did you hear that twang?)

Texas Secede! For an independent Texas Republic![]() www.TexasSecede.org "Texas is a free and independent State ... All political power is inherent in the people ... they have at all times the inalienable right to alter their government in such manner as they might think proper." - Texas Constitution (1876) "Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed... Whenever government becomes destructive to life, liberty, or property [i.e., the pursuit of happiness], it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it... It is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security." - American Declaration of Independence (1776) Read the Texas Secede |

What if Texas Really Tried to Secede?

Texas Governor Rick Perry recently stated that he believed his state would be within its legal rights to secede from the United States. Although he gave no indication that such a move is imminent or even under serious consideration, many Texas Democrats are furious at Perry over this assertion.
However, some of the state's Republicans seem to relish the idea. They realize that they would likely be the dominant party in a nation of Texas suddenly freed from a Democratically-controlled Washington.

Second if you have missed the last 140 years or so every president likes to be compared to the greats like Kennedy and Lincoln.
Third Lincoln is the founder of the Republican party so while you think its sooo funny teehee that Texas wants to do this....I am sure not only is Lincoln rolling over in his grave but I just bet he would have not only voted for Obama but gone on the campaign trail with him.
I could see another civil war happening if things keep up at the same time, however, I think that states seceding from the Union will be more talk than action.

We paid to rebuild Germany and Japan after WW11.

You are so correct, I can't think of a president that hasn't given money to help another country or cause.
I was upset after the Tsunami in the Far East a few years back, and well I wasn't against countries helping, but it seems now that it becomes a competition, of which super power can give more.

Hello =)
The whole state of Oklahoma didn't vote for Obama? You went to every single person, in every single county, in every single town to find that out?
I will have to call my friends who live there and ask them if they know about this also.
There has been a Texas independant movement for years but this is not it. Perry only stated the obvious and the fact that Texas is unique in that they came into the union by treaty could withdraw from the union with vote of the people.
Texas is not the only state to make such a statement either, Montana and Wyoming among others have made that statement. The 10th Amendment Movement sets forth the very idea.
All of the States need to start standing for their rights under the 10th or start sueing to seperate themselves from the central government.
What I love most about you, is how self deceived you are. Do you think Lincoln, a republican, would be a republican today? Do you think Obama would be a democrat like Andrew Jackson?
Self deception is a sad thing even for you.
Lincoln the great Republican idol would be so digusted with the Republicans that he, if alive today, would be a democrat?
Does that sum it up?
And you think I am self deceived. Do you realize what a slam to the Republicans you just made?
Hail Texas! All bow before the one and Mighty state.
Only this time they are on their own.
Better hone up on you Espanol now if you live in Texas.
The founding fathers were a bunch of gungho liberals.
Now who is destroying this country?
As a Dem, I think gee that would be great if Texas would secede. Without those reliably Republican electoral votes from Texas, we would probably never have another Republican president in my lifetime. A guy can dream......
I hope this adds to the discussion.
All my best,
