Weekend of Festivals

It was a hot but gorgeous weekend in Georiga.  It was going to be to hot to work in my yard and I was saved from that when Marianne R. suggested we hit the Jonquil Festival in Smyrna on Saturday.

Going into the Jonquil Festival you have to walk by the food vendors.  There was the usual fair type menu such as corn dogs and chicken tenders.

 

Crafts and art

Lots of dogs

We walked to the pond and saw some ducks and ducklings

There were not as many vendors as I expected but it was a nice day and it was good to be out and about.  Marianne even took me on a side trip to one of her favorite stores.

Sunday morning Marianne was getting a wild hair to head to downtown Atlanta to attend the Inman Park Arts Festival.  The seed was planted and we made plans to meet up and ride down together.

Inman Park is a beautiful part of downtown, lovely old homes, many of which have been renovated.  A few are even for sale.

We saw quite a few of these signs in front yards.  

Vintage cars.

The crowd was quite large.

There was music.

Recycled art.

Painted art

Flying pigs

Frogs

Even many of the homeowners joined in the festivities.

There were many different types of art media such as clay

and wood.

Paint

All surrounded by beautiful old homes.

We saw this cat and thought of Rose and Jimbo.

I believe that a fun time was had by all.

I love all the different mediums of art you saw, I'd have a hard time keeping my money in my pocket. That sure is a large crowd. What a wonderful way to get out and enjoy the beautiful scenes. Love the photos, those homes are lovely.

Great pictures!There was a large crowd at that 2nd festival. Love that reccled art - there is a 2ns use for almost all things!

I love craft fairs! You get to see so many people's creations, things you never thought of! But craft fair in conjunction with the beautiful weather and what nature has to offer is like the cherry on the icing on the cake!

In Barbara Kingsolver's book, "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" she shares that her youngest daughter was having a difficult time remembering what they were named and kept calling them tranquils.

Priscilla, I bought a peace sign necklace made from a gourd for my daughter and some fudge. I did see many things I would have loved to buy but I restrained myself, lol.

Marianne, if I get my yard work done during the week then my weekends are free, lol! There is lots to see and do on the weekends this time of year!

Kat - I so loved reading this. I used to live in Atlanta and went to that festival or one like it in a park off Peachtree - this brought back so many memories - I miss it very much but then that was 35 years ago - Atlanta was a new city in ways - there's still a neat feeling though - wow - how fun each image was - of course, I loved the cat - and loved some of the crafts very much. Also, fun that you got together with Marianne - what a fun woman she must be - always on the Go! Ok well I'll be back later - just so happy to see this - it made my day! Happy Monday. Salud

Oh Kat - you found Jimbo's twin:) Isn't it wonderful how gather connects us all?

As as as this essay - all I can say is WOW. Outstanding photos, you chose a nice variety of subjects and with just the right amount of narrative it really felt like I was trapsing along with you. Great job!

You guys must have had a ball, it's a great time of year for festivals and we went to a couple this weekend too.

Wonderful pictures Kat. I saw quite a few things there that I would have liked to buy. Good thing I am just on the computer. Love yours and Marianne's pictures, but I have a question. With that many people there how in the world did you get close enough to things to get pictures? When we went to one last year, there were always hands, feet, fingers, hair, and numerous other things in my way. I think I will just have to start pushing people so that I can get some shots of festivals up here, lol.

Carol, there were times that we had to wait for people to move out of the way. I think it also helped that we got there an hour or so after the event started so we were behind the big crowd. We had a great time. I kept getting distracted by all the wonderful old homes, lol.

I lived in Atlanta for a while when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter. We are talking about 33 years ago. I have only been back a couple of times and each time things have changed. It is nice to see that certain areas remain old and quaint. Thanks for bringing back some old memories.

I really love looking at old houses. They have so much character, the new houses dont have. They are just boxes or rectangle brick dwellings. These older houses were built with hand crafted architecture.

Looks like a fun weekend! I love seeing all the crafts, and those houses are lovely. I really like older architecture like that.
