For the month of April, the art of Fran Noble (my sister) is being showcased at the Thayer Gallery. The other day I went up to Braintree to have a gander. Over the years, Fran has painted in Italy, Lascaux, France and Ireland.

About ten years ago, Fran was a visiting artist in residence at an Art School in The Burren in northwest County Clare. Later she rented a cottage outside Cleggan in Connemara where she painted that particular painting. My photo was taken closer to home....in Duxbury, Mass. As you can see, we share the same "eye"....just different medium.
Featured in the Triple Name Club.
That last one reminds me of the imposing Blackhawk Statue that sits on the top of a mountain here on the Sauk Valley River. It can be seen for miles around.
Hugs and blessings - S.
Night
I hope she has a very successful show!
Fran went to Mass Art (Massachusetts College of Art) in the 60's. After teaching art in the Braintree School System, she went back to Mass Art in the '90's. That's when she went over to Ireland, then a school in France (I forget where it was...but she lived there for a summer doing classes. She has great stories about her French boarding house). I think she was in Italy the summer of 2003. She is now "officially retired" but of course she still paints.
The last is my favorite of the ones in the exhibit....but I do like the double "Leaning Towers".
I should have photographed them in her studio....but because of school I couldn't get up there so I went to the Exhibition. There were people milling around so I had to get a shot when I could.
I'm going to have google the Blackhawk Statue and see if I can see an image.
They run "rampant" in this family.....sometimes out of control.
Sherrie:
The "horse" one won "First in the Show" at an Exhibit last summer.
Thanks Poddar.
All these pieces are for sale. Anyone in particular you are interested in?
The background in #3 was done at Lascaux (as were the horses) and then she took artistic license and put African head to the side (since that's birthplace of mankind).
Talented, maybe. But we do work hard at refining the gifts we have been given....plus we had a Mom and Dad who really encouraged us and provided us with a good education.
I checked out Blackhawk...you are right, the painting does look a wee bit like the guy.
another carrot, I'm offering.
Thanks Mariana....we try!
Fran is especially well refined, and an obvious master. So beautifully caught Bob, indeed.
You indeed are quite the sisters act. And raised in a family that nourished your creativity. Go figure?
(so of the spelunking Alred family on POW...?)
Blackhawk
This 125 feet cement statue stands above the Rock River on a 77 foot bluff. It is said to be the second largest cement monolithic statue in the world.
Then I have to say how envious I am: to have the artist sister, to have an art gallery near.
Most lucky and fun! And my fave would be the last one, also.
And you, dear bob, are quite talented yourself...your writing, your photography...your deft way with words and unique look at the world that makes us all stop and ponder ;-)
You certainly come from a very talented family Elizabeth! These are beautiful.
