What did I say?
Do you really mean it?
I came across a man once,
he had an idea and spoke it,
in fast thrusting flourishes of pink and gold.
The idea plowed into my brain,
I woke with a start and could not speak.
I rambled in my mind,
trying to find the location of the word.
That's nice.

Well, Chris leaves a funny limerick but really I think we all must identify and feel a bit puzzled by the "that's nice" comment and would wonder if we were heard. As always Chana, you share what is in our heart as well.

Well when I put nice I mean I have enjoyed the post or I think it has merit., Some of us who work full time and have other things besides Gather do not have time to write long detailed comments. I, for one, am happy when I receive any comments even if it just says "that's nice."

That's nice, depends on the tone.
It's non-offense and reminds me of people of like beige, beige clothing, a beige house color and if there is a choice for carpet, a car or an accessory - "Take the beige, it'll go with anything:)"

I always liked the word nice, because, to me, it always meant that I found someone or something to be pleasant in some way. But I know the "Nice" of whichyou speak, and it's anything but.

To some of you who may have been offened, this was not my intention. Only that when you put your heart and sould into something and you get a That's Nice., generally alot of us do not know what to make of it. I have in the past commented that I just don't know what to say and I will try and come back.

You brought back memories of my of my former college English professors who became a dear friend. She refused to allow us to use the word "nice" in any of our writing assignments. She called it a "plastic sticker" and would flag our assignments with those bright sticky flags if we used such words. Getting a paper with a flag(s) was embarassing enough to remember to avoid such "nice" words (lacking substance) in the future. I do think I forget sometimes these days..."nice" reminder (had to LOL)

too many people say something like that, and though they really mean they liked it, it comes across sounding bland or phony. Yet there are times it is hard to think of something to say it a different way.

You seem offended, so I deleted my comment. I was agreeing with you that "nice" is not a meaningful comment at all. It's what I used to call a "weasel word" on my middle school kids' papers, i.e. weaseling out of thinking through one's reaction enough to say something meaningful. Sorry if I came off as doing just what you were talking about.
