I try to go outside and watch (and photograph) the birds at least a few times a week. We are starting to get a variety of birds coming to the feeders. I'm not posting any photos that I have posted before....(though I may have better photos of some of the birds).

A very noisy bluejay

This is a northern flicker....I've only seen him once here....what a neat woodpecker.

We do have lots of finches of all different types.

The least favorite of the birds....the morning doves....

I think it's a Cedar Waxwing...

We have a white breasted nut hatch...and she is making her home in a neighbor's bird house. I haven't checked to see if there are eggs or babies yet.

This was taken through 2 separate panes of glass....and these are cowbirds. These are bad news....as they lay eggs in other birds's nests.

I have a couple of downy woodpeckers that come to visit.

The sparrows are well fed.

The red breasted woodpecker is very cautious....he likes to hang around on the tree and look around before he comes down to the feeder.

I can't believe I got a decent action shot.

Female cardinal....

Then there is the male cardinal. We have 3 different males that hang around here and 2 different females. I think they have finally paired off though.

I do have my favorite male cardinal shot posted under my photos....
I hope you've enjoyed the birds I see around my backyard. I know there are more...but I don't want to bore you to tears with all my bird photos.

nice 'zoom' on that camera
great essay
Second...my favorite is the one with the yellow flicker???? zeroing in on the other two birds on the feeder (I don't know what they are???). I know when a Blue Heron does a fly-by or a dine-in in our pond...and I know we have some little birds that make a home in our cherry tree bird house every year...and when they start pecking at the tree, I figure that must be a wood pecker. Now the Blue Jays...those are easy to know!
Angela -- I'm not the hair stylist for the birds, but I also noticed that the woodpecker looked like he had a mohawk.

great photo essay, super backyard shots. I really like the female Cardinal with the White Azaleas in the back ground .
my group
You are so lucky to live where you are surrounded by such beautiful creatures.
I love them all but my fav is the female cardinal with white azaleas in the background!!
Jax, - you are a great bird photographer...there is noway you could bore me with any of your pics!!!!!
I might have missed that Woodpecker in the first shot, but for the red on its head. The Woodpecker almost blends in with the tree ~ L O L.
GREAT SHOTS, and VERY VIVID.
Blessings ~
Your Friend,
Rene
Wow you have such colorful finches-- never seen yellow ones or red or sparrows with red dots either. Guess things are less colorful here in Texas. We do have a Mr. & Mrs. Cardinal in our back yard.
Beautiful pictures. You are lucky to live in Michigan. I've seen cardinals here in Arizona a couple of times but they aren't too common. Of course, we have "The Cardinals" here but nobody wants to watch them. heehee.
I am so jealous of these shots. I love to take my camera out in the early am and snag shots.
Definitely not boring me with your bird shots. They came out extraordinary. What kind of camera are you using to get these photos? They all came out so clear. even the one with the bird flying in for a landing. Great shots - all.
I have a Nikon D-80 with a telephoto 55-200 lens. I have always had Nikon cameras, and I've never had an issue with them. Actually, I still have my Nikon film cameras.
I agree, Nikon's are great. I used a D-90 to shoot my bluebird photos...and they were taken through a glass door in the rain!
That female cardinal shot is spectacular! I don't like those nasty mourning doves, either. They are so MEAN to the other birds. Great photos, Jax!
Great photos! We're finally getting a variety of birds to come to our feeders too though I'm still not too great at photographing them. I even saw a hummingbird out in the yard the other day. I had never seen one around our house before and had wondered if getting a feeder for them would bring them around. Now I'm thinking I'll get one and see.
Gorgeous photos. I love woodpeckers!
What a beautiful photo essay Jax!! I love all the shots, but the one of the cardinal in front of the flowers is gorgeous.
Sounds like and intense camera, thanks for sharing the brand with me
Coming back a second time to see your awesome photos.
I love your photos! The female cardinal against the white flowers is exceptionally lovely.
This photo essay is awesome...awe inspiring, beautiful and did I say awesome?
Look at all the birds that Like to dine at your house...you are so lucky to have so many different types coming by...and what wonderful shots you take....
