Bea Arthur has passed

Beatrice Arthur, an icon of '70s TV as the star of Maude, and then one of the staples of '80s TV as one of the leads in Golden Girls, has died at age 86, according to an Associated Press report. A family spokesman told AP the Emmy and Tony Award winner had cancer, and died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles.

 

This video has her adopted son in it... Matthew Saks, appears as Cop #2 (the shorter one, without the mustache).

 

Anyone care to share their thoughts of this VERY talented lady?

I love Bea Arthur and the Golden Girls. Bea's humor is so dry and sarcastic...and so on target. She was a wonderful actress.

I just read about her death from another Gather member's post. I am shocked! I knew she was in her late 80s, but I didn't know she had cancer. Thanks for showing us one of her sons. I read she had two sons, and two grand kids.

Lifetime is playing Golden Girls on late night. It has been fun to catch up on the (many) episodes I missed. Now, if only they would release Maude on DVD.

Arthur contributed to a lot of fun hours. RIP

I loved her in all she did. Maude was a great show as well as Golden Girls. I had no idea she was even ill. She had a lot of talent and will be missed.

Kind of weird. Because yesterday I had this feeling to go look her up on the Internet and here she dies the next day. That's weird.

Why did you look her up?
Maude was such a favorite show of mine when I was a kid. She was bold and outspoken and liberated. Much different from the women I grew up around.

I liked her when I was a kid and watched Maude...but Golden Girls was incredibly fun.

I never saw that episode...I loved how Stan always earned a huge ration of......stuff ;-)

Bea Arthur bore a strong resemblance to my aunt - my father's sister.  The looks, the attitude, the outspokeness.

One time my aunt was delivering a screenplay to the company where Bea Arthur worked and someone kept shouting to her (in greeting) thinking she was the actress.

I was such a big fan of hers, and it saddened me more than I knew when she passed away. She will definitely be missed, I know by me. She was a fantastic actress, and wondeful lady. Thank you for honoring her.

I always loved the Golden girls.  I was a bit young when Maude was on, but I liked it in reruns.  I think it's sad she didn't want a memorial service.....PIF

With all the wonderful things Miss Arthur has done in her life including the Ali Center, wouldn't it be great to see her final interview, in HER OWN WORDS talking about her career etc.

We need to contact Merv Griffin Productions and see if entire interview will be aired.

I'd hate for an full interview with Bea or the other legendary ladies in the clip to go unseen.
