Here we go again

I just got 2 emails that me upset.  I just found out that 2 of braydens teachers are resigning at the end of the year.   One of the teachers she treated him just like he was her..  I am not sure if you remember but back in jan. Ms. Holly left the school.  When Ms. Holly left that totally messed up brayden.  I was not sure if he was going to recover.  If his dad was a few mintues late getting home he would ask me if "daddy was going to leave like ms. holly"?  NOw I get to go through this again with him.  I know this is only preschool, but what is the best way to approch this with him??? I can't stand to watch him get his heart ripped out again.  He is so scared of people leaving.  I am very upset, beccause now I am on the borad for the preschool and now I  am not even sure if I want brayden to go there.  How should I handel this??? should I hope and pray that he forgets about them over summer??? (which is unlikely cause he has a memory like and elephant) or should i just tell him the truth and watch him get his heart ripped out again?? either way I go I  know he is going to be hurt... please give me some advice how to proceed with this...

You should have a gentle talk with him to explain that teachers going somewhere else is what happens in school. Tell him that in big kids school you move to a different teacher each year, but reassure him that though he might not have the same teacher that he will have good memories of her and that she will ermember him as well. Maybe help him make a special just from him card for her last day. I get these from my secomd grade students at the end of every year and their thoughts are precious to me.

Oh no. Just a hard situation. But I do know the more we make out of things kids feed off this. So try to make it an easy transition. Good luck to all of you.

Wow, a hard one for a little one. I certainly wouldn't ignore the fact because he will be shocked and think perhaps some day you won't pick him up--that people suddenly disappear.

maybe talk to him and have him make a going away gift for her
one that is a little challenging for him, and one that takes more then one session, so he can be proud of when he gives it to her

this is not easy to deal with.. I know when he gets to kindergarten in 2 years that he will have to deal with a new teacher every year, the hard part is i think he did sometthing to make them leave because of how hard he takes it. I hate watching his face and seeing the heart ache he goes through...

If it is teachers he would have next year then I personally would wait till then rather then have him worry now and also you could think about sending him the regular school next year also.

This is not an easy talk to have with him, but you should explain to him that sometimes life situations come up and people come in and go for no apparent reason. Not an easy lesson for him to learn at his age.
It's hard to watch our little ones go through pain, isn't it? Try to be as calm as you can about it because he takes his cues from you, and the more upset you are the more upset he will be. But kids are tough-it may be hard for him at first, but he'll bounce right back in no time!

I'd wait until the end of the school year...teachers move on...my son had 3 different kindergarten teachers....it was difficult, but kids bounce back...

I think Sadie, the first comment, hit it right on the head. I know it hurts so bad to see your little one hurting. I know I would have gone through almost anything to spare my kids. But life is tough, and what doesn't kill us makes us stonger.

I would just be honest to him in a gentle way. If Mom doesn't over react about it, and stays calm, then child will usually be calmer as well.

I'm sorry this is happening. He's too young to understand why all these people that he loves are leaving. Perhaps you should talk to the administration at the preschool and find out what the problem is!
