Resonance

An object starts vibrating when that is reached by sound waves of the same frequency as its own frequency of resonance.

Therefore, a diapason vibrating makes the other to vibrate as well.

A singer will be able to break into pieces a glass, if she gives a note which frequency is just like the glass´.

That curious phenomenon is called resonance.
