Last weekend we took a trip up to Springfield, Mo to see the girls who have moved there with their mother. After lunch at IHOP (a perennial favorite) we took them to a local park. It is a fantastic place with rocks and caves, and of course, playgrounds.
When we first arrived, Lili just had to go exploring the big rock.

It was beautifully carved by time and nature.

Both girls wanted to explore a little cave but it was necessary that Grandma lead the way. Next time we plan to bring a flashlight so that they can go a little further inside.

Spring has definitely arrived in the area though it was an overcast day that kept threatening rain.

The playground called strongly so it was time to let the girls loose. Ari headed straight for the big slide.

It was a long climb for her so she soon decided this one was more her size.

Lili had fun on the monkey bars. Ari so wanted to do exactly as her big sister so I had to carry her while she went hand over hand on the rungs. Some day she'll be able to do it on her own.

They had a wonderful time climbing and sliding and swinging and jumping though Ari was always just a little behind Lili.

Still, Lili is a good big sister and made sure to hold Ari's hand as they ran to a second playground in the park.

Too soon, the skies opened and it was time to go.

As we drove away Ari piped up from the backseat with "Bye, bye park". We know we'll be back soon.

Dannielle, the teeter-totter count in our town, in all the parks I know of, is zero, and there is one merry-go-round left. (There was another one when we first came here--it was removed soon after.) Every time I see that merry-go-round I'm surprised it's still there.
We had some Earth Day festivities today at Ballard Park, including a walk along the trails with the executive director of the Friends of Ballard Park. There were lots of little ones along the age of Lili and Ari. As you've seen from some of my articles on the park, there are certainly lots of rocks there to keep the kids interested. I also noted that all the little girls under the age of six or seven managed to pick up a stick to accompany them on their hike. Needless to say, that was a pretty lively event!
It was a lesson in cooperation, because one kid alone worked very hard to move the m-g-r, but if we could get friends to join us, we all had a great ride together.
I imagine Lili and/or Ari some years into the future fondly posting some of these photos and telling of their joyful experience of the day on Gather.
Beautiful park, beautiful day.
