The Democrats have been saying that the basis for the hate crimes bill is that homosexuals and transgenders have been having to cross state lines because of persecution and to find work and because of hate crimes. Well, according to Andrea Lafferty, the executive director of the Traditional Values Coalition, the Democrats were forced to remove the part of the bill claiming that when it was proved that out of a country of 300 million people, only 1,521 cases like this have been reported.
As I've been saying all along. This bill has nothing to do with hate crimes. They are simply trying to silence those of us who speak out against homosexuality. And, actually, I'm not in the least bit interested in telling someone else how to live. I just want to be able to speak out my beliefs without retaliation. If someone else wants to live that lifestyle, that's their business. But they don't have a right to tell me how I should believe. And, I can guarantee you that I will not change my beliefs or standing up for them regardless of some law they pass trying to shut me up.

But I didn't scream hate crime, but the crowd of trouble makers were full of hate. If I prosecuted, I would fear for my daughter's life so instead, I pulled her out of school.
That's a hate crime. She was attacked and ran for her life. I just diffused the situation and made her appologize for what she didn't do. I am sick of reversed hate crimes, and I may hire a lawyer and push back, if it happens again.

Who is pushing who?
How sad...
And honestly, even if it's only 1,521 cases, why is it wrong to try to prevent more? That's still 1,521 victims...
They aren't allowed to stop this violence because you don't want to hear about it...turn off the tv then and go read your bible.
violence is violence...
No wonder the Republicans are SO against Hate Crimes.
They are trying to protect their own from prosecution.
(But they won't help protect others from murder)
It seems that you are interested in telling someone else how to live...or else it wouldn't bother you. But then I'm sure you feel that they decide to be gay.... And as others have said it's alright to speak your beliefs as long as you don't cause harm and incite a crowd into doing harm, neither of which come under free speech. Would you like it if your life style and your religion made you the victim of discrimination?
I've alway wondered who Traditional values a group calling themselves Traditional Values Coalition are talking about? Most groups like that talk HATE. That anyone that believe different from them is wrong....
We liberals won't be affected if it passes - only if it doesn't.
So those of you that want to speak out against homosexuality are NOT trying to tell someone else how to live?! How is that? Really, I'll wait for the answer ... and I'll even wait patiently because this answer OUGHT to be good.
Oh, I see, you think that if the title of a bill sounds good, it's a good bill, that need not be approached with caution . . .
Peter, do you really think that someone trying to control freedom of speech is going to title their bill; Control of Speech Bill?
You say "controlling freedom of speech".
You think your being able to incite violence is important to your rights.
I say not getting violence is important to mine.
I hope I win (and I don't care what they call it - but they always call those things something nice).
Boo-hoo for them.
It will be illegal to hate like that for the same reason yelling FIRE in a theater (for no reason) is illegal.
People get hurt.
Government has every right to protect the safety of its citizens from the nasty bullies.

I can remember a time when a liberal named Janet Reno went after some people in the northwest of this country and had her agents kill those people. Funny thing, those people weren't doing anything wrong. So, who would put all of their faith in a government to keep them safe? I can't see that. Could the government be held accountable under this Hate Crime Bill? I wonder. The trouble is this in my opinion. We all have different opinions on this issue, some to the right and some to the left. Trying to shut up the folks on the right is an exercise in futility. No one can say that just crimes against gay folks would be a hate crime. ANY crime against another human being is a hate crime in my book. Trying to label those who perpetrate criminal acts against anyone whether they be straight or gay is again an exercise in futility. It doesn't get anyone anywhere they wouldn't be at, at the end of the day.
(laws are reactionary)
If you right wingers were decent and polite, and didn't incite violence, nobody would think to think up such laws.
Bullies are loud, yep.
It will be illegal to hate like that for the same reason yelling FIRE in a theater (for no reason) is illegal."
Well, in that case, I don't understand why someone doesn't pass a Crimes Are Illegal Bill, and put an end to them . . .
how do you get to speak out against homosexuality and tell people how to live their lives, when homosexuals and Democrats (you have jumbled us up as one) aren't allowed, in your say so, to say what they feel about the way they are treated? Hypocrit!
Thank you for posting to sparealine.gather.com
The The Hate Crime bill is intended to INCLUDE heinous acts against Gays to the already long list of crimes perpetrated against any person due to the fact of who they are. This includes blacks, Jews, even Muslims.
There is a HUGE difference between a random crime and a crime committed solely because of who the victim happens to be.
For example:
You and a friend are leaving a mall. A group of thieves decided that they will target YOU instead of your friend because they hate Monkeys. They rob you, beat you, hell, even rape you, all the while calling you ugly monkey names. The crime would not have occurred if you had not been a monkey.
So, what's the point of this uninformed, homosexual bashing post? When are people going to realize it is NOT a choice, and you can't "fix" them by sending them to some "bible camp"!
(And Pat, Calling me a "liberal koolaid drinker" is not making a point)
SO, what I am reading is that you support YOUR right to speak your mind, but oppose the idea of others' doing so?
donna f., Apr 23, 2009, 2:30pm EDT
No, Donna, that is not what she is sayng, please quit trying to play stupid. You know exactly what she is saying."
Yes, I know EXACTLY what she is saying. She wants the right to tell me that homosexuality is wrong, but she doesn't want anyone to call her on it. Call me stupid again.
A liberal by definition doesn't go killing gays. That's a "moralist" KKK minded person. You should know that !!!
Now stop being so willfully ignorant !!!
How dare you call yourself a Christian. There is nothing "Christ-like" in your hate mongering. Whatever happened to "Judge not lest ye be judged" or "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Oh yeah, you so-called "Christians" pick and choose the scriptures to suit your small minded purposes. There is no point in trying to make a bigot see reason, so I will close with this thought:
When you are standing before God and he asks if you were tolerant and loving to all of his creations, what will your answer be?
That would be in the 'Childishly Naive' dictionary, Peter ?
Utterly amazing closed-mindedness. . .
People kill Gays.
It don't matter the religion, race, culture, political mind set...nothing.
It is another human people killing another human being because of their believe, sexual preference, color or even political mind set.
Killling another because you do not like the way they are is a HATE CRIME.
Does it matter what if they are gay or not? Black or white? Muslim or Christian?
No...it is a Hate Crime
we have if for the races right now, Hate Crime.
Now it is time for sexual preferences and religion difference...Hate Crime...let it go through, and as far as I know there isn't one for religion yet, but that needs to go through also.
I would like to know I won't be killed because of my relgion...because the bible tells Cjhristains to murder me. (that is a hate crime also)
