What does matter is if you post to something for which there is a Gather Essential group. You know, Gather Essential Food, Gather Essential Politics, etc. I've discovered that if post to one of those, I sometimes get hundreds of page views.

It might make some difference if people who are hanging out of the group page see your post. That is not how I find my stuff though.

Only if people paruse the groups and randomly comment on content they like. I know I do that with a few groups photo submissions.

To some extent it does matter. I probably wouldn't have seen this post if you hadn't posted it to ~3,000 Here we Come~, because I'm currently helping to clear content from that group.

Supposedly the less groups you post to the more your post is deemed relevant in search engines. Read that on someone's post but never tested the advice out.
