Welcome to the Member-to-Member HelpCenter™ -- Where other Gather members help you with your Gather-related questions or problems! Enter your question below and receive a response from other members! gather.com | Today's Glitch Report: Group task counts were reset for some groups, and 'frozen' for others. The site maintenence period on April 20 cleared erroneous Group task counts for groups without content awaiting moderation. Unfortunately, some groups having content awaiting moderation during the maintenence window now have their Group task counts frozen at that post-update number. | |

"I know that tags play an important role in how members locate my content on Gather, but I have no clue how to choose the best tags. Is there a trick to it?"Tagging your content properly is very important, and can make a big difference in your readership when members search for content on a specific topic. Fortunately there are several tools on Gather that can make your tag selection easier, leading to increased community exposure for your posts, photos or videos.
Method #1 - Keyword Search
Use Gather's search tool to recommend additional tags surrounding a specific topic. For example, if your post relates to Barack Obama, enter "obama" or "barack obama" in the search tool and review the tags displayed along the left-hand sidebar.

This listing represents the tags used most often in content containing the keyword you entered. By also including any relevant tags from this listing, you increase the likelihood of your content being picked up in a content search. Tags are listed in the order of popularity.Method #2 - Tag Clouds
Access Gather's Tag Search page (which differs from the search page in the example above). You may access this page by appending your starting tag to the URL (web address) for Gather.
For example, to access the Tag Search page using the starting tag of "obama", enter the following URL into your browser's address bar:
http://gather.com/obama
You may also display the same Tag Search page by clicking any tag of "obama" in the community.
Along the right-hand sidebar of this page is a 'tag cloud' representing tags which relate to the primary tag you entered. Below is the tag cloud for "obama":
Popularity of the tags appearing in the cloud are designated by font size or weight. Therefore, words that display bigger or darker are used more often as tags than other words in the cloud. By also including any relevant words from the cloud as tags in your content, you increase the likelihood of your work being located by other members in a search.
Method #3 - Review Current 'Hot' Tags
Depending upon the type of content you are planning to publish, check out the tags that are currently the most popular in the community.
Hot Posts »
Hot Photos »
Hot Videos »
Each page contains a 'tag cloud' indicating tag popularity for that content type. In addition, you can see which tags are moving up or down in popularity.
Use these pages to identify popular tags which may potentially relate to your content.
I did respond to you yesterday (sorry about the delay). Please let me know if any of my suggestions helped your situation. Thanks!
I did read your question and was about to respond. Gather does place a number of cookies on your computer, and removing cookies associated with specific members won't really affect your Gather experience...with the exception of adding to page view counts on the site.
I can't take today's poll by you above for some reason? It says "HELP-connection failed." For the record, it is trying to publish in here and the ever present "poof" ... no article anymore syndrome. Over the years this has really turned me off from trying to post in here, despite all the copy and paste work-around plans we have to do. You can't even trust the "save as draft" anymore.... a real pain and a "turn off"... LOL.
Have a great day... ;-)
Good morning. :)
I haven't posted much, but it sounds as though I've been fortunate not have encountered any significant problems. (Frustrations with Gather's format yes, but at least it has worked as Gather intends.) Given my understanding of how Gather got started -- as a platform for writers -- I would think that they'd be scrambling to correct such issues. Silly, silly me.
I haven't heard from her, but I haven't been around very much myself today. I hope you're having a good afternoon!
Thanks for posting

I would also like to know why i did not earn any points after all the postings i made yesterday... Thanks...
You may invite anyone to join Gather...no matter in the world they may live (although they do need to be 13 years of age or older). International members cannot redeem points for gift cards or PayPal payments however.
As for your second question, the publishing of content represents only a part of how points are earned in the community. Therefore, simply sharing a post or photo won't necessarily equate to an increase in your earnings.
I did republish several HelpCenter posts to the group yesterday, as I was testing a fix to my publishing problems. That was only a one-time event....thankfully.
I'm glad you found Phyllis, and that she's OK!
