Atlanta Traffic and the rest of the country

I don't know about the whole rest of the country, but we drove through South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia,Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, and nowhere, in all 46 hours we spent on the road coming and going, did we run into the horrible and idiotic traffic we ran into this morning going from Marietta to Atlanta.

Maybe if we had actually gone through New York City or Boston, we might have run into that sort of traffic, but certainly not in their metro areas.

No kidding...Atlanta traffic is just HORRIBLE. I hate driving anywhere around here.

Hubby used to live in Atlanta, so he can probably relate to this. He told me how he never used his car when he was there, that it was safer, cheaper, and quicker to use public transportation, to avoid all that stuff.

Until recently, I would have agreed about public transportation, as long as you're actually in Atlanta, but we live 30 miles from Atlanta. I have done that trip to work taking public transportation, and it used to take me an hour and a half each way. At least in the car, we can make it in an hour.

I used to live in the LA area and traffic is still a 4 letter word in my book. I haven't been to Atlanta in like 15 years, so I can't compare it fairly.

I lived in Roswell (an Atlanta suburb) for over 8 years and I worked in Marietta (12 miles). My record of driving to work using the back roads was 45 minutes. Interstate 75 into Atlanta will back up 18 miles to a standstill beginning at 6 a.m. SR-400 from Roswell to downtown becomes impassible at 5:30. I never drove to the airport (the other side of the city) but always took MARTA which was faster and cheaper. The last time I heard, there are over 6-million passenger miles A DAY travelled in Metro Atlanta.

I also lived briefly in NYC and also for a year in L.A.; I will take their traffic any day over Atlanta's.

Yeah, Walker, Roswell is one of my favorite towns.We once tried to drive from work in Tucker(almost in Atlanta) to Roswell to attend the ghost tour. We left work at 6 PM and we got to Roswell 3 hours later, too late for the tour. That's what should take less than an hour easily.

I used to live in Jonesboro and I remember driving through atlanta back then (around 1989 1990) and it was bad back then. In June I think of last year, we went to a book signing at borders in Marietta and I decided then that I hated the traffic just as bad now as then.
