Had a great idea today

I was making a keychain for Anne because she wanted me to make one with both her kid's names on it for her to buy it and I came up with a family keychain. I think its a really cute thing and now I figured that maybe if I could sell enough of them I could keep my net. Problem being is that I don't know anyone who is into that kind of thing lol. So is it a good idea or am I off my rocker?

here's the best way to figure what to charge. figure how much it costs you to make one, then double that price.
or maybe just charge so much per name. but be sure to charge enough to cover the ring itself, as well as the beads and cord, and your time.

I am thinking for a family of 4 I would say $20 with shipping included and anyone other then that $3 per name. If that seems high just trying to keep the net and that isn't allot of proffit at all. And ofcourse you know I would be nogontionable with the price

I don't know why they wouldn't sell...find a place to put them, with an example photo or 2 and you customize with the name or names they want. I would suggest blujay however it's disappeared and I need to find another place to sell my stuff.

You might try selling them on ETSY and/or if your area has a local trades day or flea market, you could set up a booth and sell your standard ones with common names and take orders on your family names and others.

To have it be profitable to you, you should determine your cost and then mark it up a minimum of 75%. You should also figure in the amount of time it takes you to make each one. For example, say it takes you an hour to make one, pay yourself $6 an hour and add that to your cost.........or you could write that part off and not charge it because of what you're saving in the cost of fuel, wear and tear on vehicle....etc...because you aren't out the cost of those things.

Also, if you are blessed and it possibly becomes a full size business that you are earning from, you can deduct your expenses from your taxes, which might catch you a break.
PS I'd buy one if I wasn't so darn broke these days! :-(
