Cold Frame Magic!

My cold frame is working wonderfully for being tis first year!

I pulled and ate my first radishes from it this morning.

French Breakfast's!

I also have a few other types of radish, turnips, carrots, beets, lettuce, sugar peas and have added spinach and a few more rounds of carrots , radish and lettuce that will hopefully take me through summer!

I augmented the soil in this area with an organic fertilizer called Plant Tone that contains boron, which I read over this winter is necessary for healthy beets. It is also instrumental in helping obtain well formed strawberries( we'll see!)

Okay...in addition to baking bread, you get to garden. But we will have to use a community garden plot. We absolutely are up too high and don't get enough sun...and the city will NOT let us cut a single tree.

LOL...if not we were cut from the same cloth! I actually don't mind cleaning...I just want it to stay that way so I don't have to do it again..now laundry I hate...it was my JOB when I was young..well one of them.

Making a cold frame is easy. I rarely see this anywhere, but it was common when I was a child. Makes me wonder if I have the materials to make one. Fresh tastes best.

William you are so right! Cold frames can be whatever you need them to be. I choose to grow things in mine that I can replace as I use and get a second turn out of the area...Iwill even be able to use it during the winter once we get the permanent top on it....this area recieves wonderful sun in the winter but during the summer is shaded...perfect for the items in it that dont take full sun real well....
I need to get another shot of it...now that the beets and carrots have filled in some more!
