Swagbucks

Sooo...I stumbled across this on gather and I'm still a bit confused about this.  Does anybody actively use it that can tell me more about it?  Is it safe to use (free from spyware and viruses)?  If it's really that safe then why doesn't everybody use it instead of like google.com or yahoo.com?  I'm leery of download this and get this free stuff type of things.  It was all I could do to sign up on gather lol.  Also, with the $5 amazon gift cards they offer for such and such an amount of points...can you combine them for a bigger purchase or is it like $5 off your puchase of something?

There is nothing to download with Swagbucks. It is a search engine that uses results from Google and Ask (?). You earn swagbucks with your searches and can "cash" them in for gift cards.

on the swagbucks site it says: "Doing a ton of searches, or clicking on search results, will not increase your chances of winning in any way."- I'm confused...I thought that was EXACTLY how you earn points. Am I wrong?

You just use Swagbucks as a search engine..........sometimes you will get actual "Swagbucks," sometimes not......you save the swagbucks and you can cash in for all sorts of stuff, even books and other stuff now....as well as Amazon.com gift cards........all of the gift cards on Swagbucks, however, I believe are for online use only....except, I believe, Starbucks.
