Welcome to the HelpCenter™!

The original Gather help series -- assisting members since 2006.
Need a little help, or have a question?
Can't find something? ...or figure out how something works?
Ask other members!

"I would like to include a module on my group's home page, but I don't want to display a title in the module's title bar. Is there a way to make the title blank?"Yes, there is! — Gather will not allow for blank titles in modules that include an editable header or title field. However, you can easily force a blank title when desired, as illustrated below:
You may currently modify the title field in only the following group modules:
Announcement
Custom HTML (left or right)
Group Links
Inbound RSS
Since module titles require that at least one character be entered, and a blank space is not recognized, you can force a blank by entering into the title field. Then click "Submit" when finished.
Do you know how long it takes to get a response about taking over a group? I'm too impatient!
This is likely a lower priority task for them, so I would expect to wait at least a few days. If you haven't heard anything after a week, I would contact them using the reference number assigned to your support request.
Good Luck!
HOpe you have a good day:)
Do you know if gather has corrected the little glitch in the 'manage content' for the groups!!! One of my groups indicate I have 74 contents to do 'whatever' and I do not have any!! This is very frustrating.................. :O(
I can't really complain about it, as I still owe you a response from last week.
Seriously though, it can go either way. None of the questions posted from this morning have been addressed as of yet, and they will likely receive priority over outstanding questions from prior discussion threads. Hence, I'll wait until the current questions have been addressed before asking again. I also have several additional TOS-related questions that I will add...either today, or tomorrow.
Gather only responds to about 70% of questions posed to them on their daily post. They rarely go back and address open questions from prior days...even when member comments are posted well within normal business hours.
If you edit a post (or any content), the post is resent/republished to every group you have chosen to share the content with. Therefore, the post will need to be approved again in all moderated groups (except those you own or moderate).
Does that answer your question?
Also, posts do not show up in the "Content for Me" feeds of your friends if you post content to yourself first (or privately), and then open the post up to the community later.
This glitch was corrected temporarily for some members, but Gather was unable to make the fix permanent. Hence, the 'phantom' content counts began appearing again for members they worked on.
This glitch is scheduled to be fixed for all members in Mid-May when Gather implements the next major update.
Following this next update, content will disappear from groups after 2 days, and you will not be able to share any posts or videos with groups until September...but at least the phantom group task problem will be fixed.
I'll get back to you as soon as I can on a few subjects. I'm encountering several glitches myself that I am currently struggling to find the time to correct.
Thanks for your patience!
Thanks. I just really didn't have any frame of reference. It's certainly not urgent, but I am curious. And, it's clear that you have a lot on your plate.
No worries about my question. I ask it because you are the most experienced member I've 'met' thus far, and perhaps more importantly, you seem to keep these sorts of things
in perspective.
I hope that you had a nice weekend.
I'm sorry to hear about your electrical problems...have you considered an alternate power source?
...It's 'clean' energy, and USB Too!
Nice to see you this afternoon.
Have a great day.
Say what Kevin?????? LOL
I'm still working on the group problem, so expect a few past issues to surface in your group throughout the day today. I thought that the problem was fixed, but it continues to vex me in another form. Sigh!
That's a great question.
FYI, I have a list of "comment spam" FAQs that I was planning to post last week as a "Featured Question of the Day". However, I was awaiting other events in the community to unfold first. These questions should clear up any confusion that still surrounds this subject.
The answer to your question though is No....and Yes.
Posting short comments like "Nice Pic!", "Great Shot", etc. do not violate community policy on their own. Afterall, you should be able to leave a short comment if you want to.
However, posting this comment over and over again across the community within a short period of time DOES violate the Terms of Service, as it is considered "comment spam".
Therefore, you should keep your comments (no matter how short) relevant to the content, and post the same comment only in moderation.
I hope that helps!... and look for more Q & A on this subject posted here in the next few days.
I just sent you a mail a few seconds ago. Let me know if you do not get it. Thanks!
I did receive your latest message, but not the other message from a few days ago. Plus you mentioned a recent message from another member that I also did not receive.
My problems/glitches continue...
I did stop by the group a few times today to look for new questions, or comments to my earlier answers. I didn't see anything from you, so I believed you weren't experiencing any difficulties.
If I understand you correctly, you have photos uploaded to a post (or more than one). These photos are appearing alongside the post in content listings. However, you want to upload a new photo and have the new photo appear in listings with your post. Is this what you are asking?
Actually, there were two messages today. A loooong one at 3:00 and a short one with links at 3:30. Just want to make sure you received the long one. ;o)
And are you okay? My friend update feed just said that you pinged yourself recently. And then you pinged me .... again. You're a nice person, too, and I'm glad you're here for me to mercilessly torment. *snort*
I am here to check out that "Kevin (''SiteWizard'') V. pinged Kevin (''SiteWizard'') V. "
LOL You should really get a lot of page views for this one. Have a wonderful night
Unfortunately, no member can donate their points to someone else. Instead, you can order a gift card for them (in their name), or have a PayPal payment paid into their PayPal account.
Per site policy though, your group member cannot donate his points or redeem his points unless he is a resident/taxpayer in the U.S.
However, I am aware of international members that have successfully donated/redeemed their points by using a mailing address in the U.S. on the redemption page. Therefore, if the person they are giving the gift card/PayPal payment to resides in the U.S., then they may be able to make use of their points.
When you upload a photo to a post, the photo you upload FIRST is the one that will appear with the post in listings. Adding additional photos to the post later will not change this sequence.
The only way to change the photo would be to remove all current photos, or remove enough of them to allow for the single photo desired to remain. Then upload the photos you removed previously.
I'll stop by soon and take a look.
Also, is it breaking any copyright rules to post pictures or videos from a computer game I play? I've seen other people do it and not get into trouble but I want to make sure its ok. I would be taking the pictures/video with my camera if that makes a difference. I haven't quite figured out how to upload directly from the game.
I'll answer that shortly...and I'll check for your mail message.
I think you should use the icon for the group in your posts. See the sample post I added to the group a few minutes ago. This accomplishes two things:
1) It ties in with the group, which extends the group's visibility in the community.
2) It creates a recognizable 'brand' for your posts which is easy to locate in community listings and feeds. Changing the photo is not recommended as you dilute your brand and lose that exceptional recognition of your content.
Sorry Brenda...I thought you meant that you had already sent it!
When you do send it, please ping me or comment to let me know. I am not receiving some messages and messages I send are not being received.
Yes. In most cases you would be violating copyright law by posting images from a computer game...unless you created the game yourself or have permission from the game creator.
HOWEVER, it would be considered "fair use" to use these images in a POST if you are discussing the game, modifications you made to the game parameters, or are reviewing the game.
Basically the images must support your post, not be the primary purpose for publishing.
"I've seen other people do it and not get into trouble but I want to make sure its ok."
They aren't in trouble because they haven't been reported yet. However, there appears to be a lot of confusion now regarding what members can report for copyright violation and what they can't. Therefore, some members will get away with it, and others may not be so lucky.
"I would be taking the pictures/video with my camera if that makes a difference. I haven't quite figured out how to upload directly from the game."
As I stated above, I would only upload the photos to a post, not as stand-alone photos or videos.
Caveat: If your video is a review or editorial (running commentary, etc.), then it may pass the "fair use" test.
If you need clarification, please let me know.

Posting/publishing problems are often caused by a connectivity problem or a conflict with your computer in some way.
You can often minimize or eliminate these problems by following the steps below:
Please try the above and let me know if you notice any improvement. Also, if you have questions about any of the above, let me know those too.
Good luck!
I'm glad you caught the double-entendre!
It sounds like your tab settings have been changed. This can happen occasionally when Firefox updates to a new version or other alterations in the program are made (with or without you initiating them).
You can:
1) Hold the Ctrl key down when you click on a game room.
2) Review your "Options" under the "Tools" menu. Ensure that you have the option selected to open new windows in Tabs.
As for Firefox running, this is due to the time it takes for Firefox to close down when your system is low on resources. Give it more time, or close Firefox using the Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del).
Amy is jealous!! Hey, which is better? Kevin liking me or Kevin wanting you to put him in handcuffs?? bah-ha-ha!! Guess we know what that makes me and you!! Classy Sassy versus ho-ho!!
Speaking of ho-hos »
Rocky and Beau could never enter. They are both about 11 pounds. I wish they would gain a pound or two. They are too active....tell me about that, the little stinkers!!
That is a clever contest though! :o) Thanks for the laugh.
Speaking of laughs, where did Amy go?
Thanks for all the insights:)
