American Museum of Natural History
The Editorial Manager, an integral part of the Communications team, will
be responsible for project management a variety of periodic Museum
publications: the quarterly Museum Calendar; Rotunda, the Museums’
Members magazine, e-Notes, the monthly e-newsletter, and the quarterly
floor plans. Responsibilities include assigning stories, editing all
content, and creating and executing production schedules that involve a
large group of publication contributors throughout the Museum. This
position is also responsible for special major publications including
the annual report, the Official Guidebook, “Science at the Museum,” and
others to be determined. The candidate will work closely with the Media
Relations and Marketing departments, copyediting and/or line editing all
their collateral: press releases, ads, etc., and will also assist other
departments with their copyediting needs. The Editorial Manager will
report directly to the SVP of Communications and will work with him to
determine and implement editorial strategy and standards that will
support the Museum’s mission and effectively promote the Museum’s
programs and exhibitions as well as its scientific work.
Requirements
• BA degree and minimum 3+ years editorial experience
• Excellent writing and editing skills are essential
• A demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects,
coordinate with numerous departments, and enforce tight deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills. Able to work cross-functionally with
senior management, marketing colleagues, Media Relations and Digital
Media teams, as well as the scientific and educational staff, to execute
communications objectives.
• A demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in
defining the scope and concepts for new projects.
