Half the people alive in the world today are dead. The other half are asleep. There are a few exceptions, but not many. Where do you fit in? Are you among the dead, the sleeping, or are you one of the few exceptions?
We may think we are alive and awake - we put forth proof of that. But just because we are walking around with our eyes open doesn't mean we are alive; it doesn't mean we can see. We look but we see nothing. We read but we understand nothing. We go to church, mosque or synagogue but we know nothing of God and His purpose for mankind. We walk around in a daze bereft of discernment to see God with our own eyes or hear His melody with our own ears. We are in a constant state of lamentation.
We seek happiness in material things but find it not there. In our homes, our cars, in fancy clothes, food, drink, drugs, children, entertainment - nowhere. Then when we lose our material things we are unhappy. We know not where to turn for solace.
But all is not lost for God is merciful. The truth is out there. Seek and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you. Glorious days await you. As you have faith so shall your powers and your blessings be.

Spiritual messengers are seen throughout various religions. In some Native American cultures, for example, crows were seen as the spiritual messengers, or prophets, from the Creator.
The point being here is that God makes his presence known every day to us if we stay tuned in to life. Sometimes, I am humbled and stunnedbut the larger reality is that God does not abandon his creation. He is there in bad and good times and even in the simpler, mundane experiences of the journey. Certainly, there are some scientific expalnations for some events, psychology might be one, but the reality is there are unexplained mysteries if we stay focused and prayerful.
Whence cometh the kick? Well, I have been blessed with a messenger, a cross between an angel and a crow, with something of an attitude, and a the ability to give a swift, hard kick every now and then. Forget that halo stuff with this being. But I like him/her.
One thought that comes to me often are the thought of people who are going through hell here on this Earth. People under authoritarian regime, who have inadequate food and shelter, no future, and no hope. That's worse than being dead. Even here in America, there are people living from paycheck to paycheck, living in a house that is woth less than your mortgage loan amount, or driving a car which is upside down, and are making barely a minimum wage. There is no hope in their minds to ever get out of the hole they are in.
This is a very philosophical question with million answers. Sometimes I feel I am not alive when I'm so depressed (very rarely), and sometimes I am so alive that I wish I could live forever. As Dale Carnegie says, a dog does not have to read complex pshychology books to be a loyal loving pet. It just knows it by being attentive to the owner all the time. If you can focus your attention fully to a person for several weeks giving sincere praises and positive truth, and learning to serve him/her, then you will have much appreciation by those whom you care about.
