This was someone else's birthday cake. It's funny what teenage girls seem to like these days. The girl who picked this design for her cake turned 14, so she is two years older than my daughter. I miss the days of Barbie cakes for little girls.
I had to take a photo of the cake. I dropped my daughter off at the birthday party/ sleepover at a friend's last night.

As I recall, I had one of those hotel parties when I turned 14. My cake just had a pastel-colored ribbons on top with rainbow sprinkles... I was a little too old for a Barbie-themed party (although I had those when I was little... and the Little Mermaid, and Lisa Frank...), but wasn't into "pop culture," so I didn't get many "themed" cakes after I turned 12.
Interesting you bring up Barbie cakes. One of our church pastors made a Barbie cake for her granddaughter fairly recently. She had taken the granddaughter to the grocery to pick out a cake, she said, and the granddaughter wanted the Barbie cake that was $45. She didn't feel like spending that much money, so the woman at the bakery showed her how to make it... It was an awfully time-consuming project (it was one of those where top of the doll sticks out the top and the cake part makes up her outfit) but she did a great job.
I do not believe I have ever seen this skull design before... it looks sort of like Sanrio meets Pirates of the Carribean.
=)
Notice she picked out a pink one though, instead of say all black!
She is still girly :-)
