I Have A Question For Those Who Support Targeting Vets.

The recently released DHS report spoke about how returning vets "could" become terrorist. In the report and on this site and others Mcveigh is sited as an example of why we have to be concerned about these returning vets.

 

Now my question is can you name any other US vet who has turned to terrorism? If this is such a concern surely there must be more than ONE example. What are they?

Plus I keep hearing that Janet Napolitano apologized to vets but what heard was her say that vets were owed an apology but I never actually heard an apology.

Well, I guess the former service men and woman that killed their own families, had untreated mental problems or were unstable enough to commit suicide don't count in your book. It was noted that former military training would be a reason to try to recruit malcontented citizens into militia groups. You will make it what you want it to sound like....................typical frightwing paranoia!

How sad. Yes, there is a lot of PTSD in men and women who have been taught to hate and to kill and then put in horrifying situations for long periods of time, but that doesn't JUST apply to vets and though it may make them more likely to be violent, that doesn't equate to being a terrorist. If it's a problem, then maybe instead of trying to cut costs by handing them a questionnaire when they are being discharged to assess their mental state, they should offer ongoing counseling to those who feel they have problems with readjustment.

Thanks Ape. Are only former servicemen one who are unstable enough to commit a murder? This report wasn't about murders committed by former service men and women. It was about them committing acts of terrorism. Yes former service men and women haves committed horrible acts of murder but there are many many more murders committed by people who have never served.

I was waiting to see how long before the murder connection would arrive. So again thanks

Terry thank you. There are steps being made to address PTSD in service members these days through reintegration meetings at intervals after returning or separating from the service.

But success in treating PTSD requires active participation by the service members also. A lot is being done to dispel the tough guy stereo type that prevents many from seeking help.

Jeff I'd still like to know of any other examples of vets turning to terrorism. This whole report is a complete sham. There are no numbers or any specifics just a generalization of "right" issues and an attempt to portray them as examples of what "might" motivate some extremist "might" do. So till they completely disavow this report or put out the "left wing" report it's nothing more than an attack piece.

One shouldn't end this discussion on the merits of just including vets as possible right wing terrorists. That list made it pretty plain that many people fall under the suspicions of our 'protective' government and right wingers suddenly seems pretty frigging inclusive as anyone who disagrees with the government on almost anything. I actually know very few people including some Obama supporters who would NOT make this list.

That suddenly this report made only limited media appearances shows how little actual questioning of this administration they will do anymore. Funny how the anti Bushies thought that administration was over the top in its dealings with Americans and now have no problem with this.
If the same focus of ideas were to be applied to an ethnic group rather than to veterans, the protest from the left would rock the heavens. I believe that type of investigation has been termed "racial profiling" by the left. The need to avoid "racial profiling" has been used as an excuse to enforce the wasting of police resources and airport security resources, as well as to prevent the investigation of leads in criminal cases. How typical to see the Left ignore the same behavior when it is directed at a group they don't claim as their own. If profiling is wrong, then it's wrong whether it's done due to ethnicity, religion, sex or sexuality, political beliefs, or perfectly legal profession. (So far as I know, military service has yet to have been legally defined as a criminal activity.)
Deciding that people have to be placed under Government scrutiny because they know how to fight and might disagree with the current administration is not only a waste of resources, it's unethical at least, and an act of facism at worst.
