The jays are several species of medium-sized, usually colorful and noisy passerine birds in the crow family Corvidae. The names jay and magpie are somewhat interchangeable, according to bird books. Jays are nearly omnivorous; some are egg-stealers, and many store seeds and nuts for winter use. Most of us can recognize their loud and obnoxious calls.
Most of the jays I see around here are blue jays.

The blue jays here are very skittish and like to stay hidden in the trees.

I love the different colors on it's back and tail.

This seems to be the jay's relaxed position...

He straightens all up when he feels threatened.

He gets all straighted up and worked up when the woodpecker lands.

The two birds were squaking and going at each other until both of them finally flew away.

Outstanding photo essay. Beautiful shots. I think that is the bluest blue jay I've ever seen.
