Welcome to the HelpCenter™!

The original Gather help series -- assisting members since 2006.
Need a little help, or have a question?
Can't find something? ...or figure out how something works?
Ask other members!

"I'm trying to insert a video in my post from GodTube (now Tangle.com) and it appears to work properly in the editor, but when I publish my post the video is gone...what am I doing wrong?"Gather only allows videos to be embedded in posts from specific sites. Therefore, if the point of origin (where the video file is hosted) isn't allowed, the video will be removed from your post during the publishing process.
Videos are allowed from Google (if the video file is hosted by Google or other authorized site), MySpace, Yahoo, YouTube, Tagworld, Photobucket, APM, Nabbr, CBS, Hulu, Fox News, CNN, and NBC. You may also embed videos used within a widget or gadget from Google, Springwidget or Widgetbox.
Note: In some cases, video content from the sites listed above may not display.
Was anyone else having difficulty publishing?
Thanks for the info
Photos are posting without problems.
DD — I'll be sending you a mail message today about a subject near & dear to your heart...!
Minipin — I also owe you some information, which I'll be getting to you as quickly as I can.
Thanks again!!
Are you referring to finding something within ONE post? ...or do you want to search all posts on the site, or within a specific group, or published by a specific member?
Oh did I open my big mouth and try to help. Geeze I should go find a rotten egg . hahahahahahahahaha
Please feel free to comment here and answer questions anytime. I WANT more members chipping in and everyone is free to do so. The intent behind this daily post is NOT to be an "ask Kevin" forum, but instead should be an "ask other members" forum.
Now there are some good groups to be a member of. Like ones that are very interactive. Like the one where they do a writting challege each week and have a winner. Like the one where they do an altered photo each week and have a winner. Those are groups that are fun for all and interactive.
Like I said, this was just my opinion and its like Butt *** everyone has one! hhahahahahaha
I just ment your posts......so I can find what I'm looking for just in your information.
If you are looking for a specific "Featured Question" or other tip/info, then I would suggest doing a search for posts/articles pertaining to that topic.
You can also just post a comment here asking for the information you are seeking. This can yield faster and more accurate results.
HOWEVER, I have just finished updating the HelpIndex, which is a categorized listing of all help and useful resources across the community. You can quickly be linked to anything you are seeking, from adding comment images, to determining a good way to market your group. You will see more information about this posted here in the next few days.
Are you using IE7? If so, you should install IE7Pro, the free add-on for IE.
"Success" for a group depends upon your expectations. You can have a wildly successful and fun group with only a few members. However, many members become discouraged when only a few others join, and even less contribute content to the group.
Whatever you strive for, it will take work on your part to make it happen and to keep it going. Also, is there any content published in the community relating to your group theme? Does anyone have that subject in their profile data? How many, and are they active members?
If I know more about your theme, I can direct you further.
Feel free to chat privately with me using the LIVE HELP option above.
Also, did I leave one question of yours from the other day unaddressed (regarding points and page views)?
Thanks Kevin----this whole comment spamming thing has me all confused so I am looking for good information on what is aloud as a comment. Everyone is changing there groups and no one has good info just opinions. My opinion is Gather has given us the option to dissconnect from people if it's unwanted and disconnect from groups as well. So, I think Gather trying to tell us what to say is silly when the people know these options are there.
Like with most things Gather attempts, their objective is understandable, but how they go about it often makes the situation worse or more confusing. MaryAnne's post and subsequent comments fit within this category. Therefore, please check back here tomorrow as the "Featured Question of the Day" will attempt to untangle the mystery of what is and is not allowed.
and
My pretty little 'thank you' banners are considered spamming and 99% of the time I leave a personal comment too! :O(
I look upon all of your comments as spam.
The reason for this is that your comments are often personal, relate directly to the content and are insightful and intelligent. Therefore, other members seeing your words would be drawn to learn more about you, and to perhaps connect with you and view your content. This is a form of subliminal advertising that pulls members away from content where your comments are posted to your profile and content pages.
Thus, your comments are considered advertising/commercial content which is spam, and prohibited in the community.
I hope I cleared things up for you.
Again, just curious...............
Your banners ARE ALLOWED to be used!!
You simply should ensure, if you ever paste them multiple times in a row, that a short personal comment precedes them.
Therefore, this requires NO CHANGES on your part!
Yes, please feel free to send me a mail message, or click the following icon above:
a) A post is still a post, regardless of the content. However, a post is not always considered an article.
b) By the way, I FINISHED the new featuring module...it is being tested now. I'm sorry for the delay, it has been a busy week.
#1. Love that white jacket on you Kevin.....makes you look so handsome and like a doctor!!!
#2.
OR
#3. That white jacket looks fabulous on you Kevin..........makes you so handsome and intelligent looking!!!
#'s 1 and 2 are two separate comments and #3 is one comment!!
For some **Strange** reason I just don't feel up to gathering??????????? :O(
You don't even need to be that verbose. For example:
I love the white jacket Kev!
OR
I want you to father my next child Kev!
...either of the above would be fine!
Btw, I will be in "touch" with regard to your last comment.................LOL
For about a week now, on my group dashboard, beside "Manage Content," it shows 3 items waiting to be managed but when I click to approve/decline them there is nothing there. If there are, for example, 2 actual items to be managed then the number shows up as 5. The 3 never goes away. How can I fix this problem? Please advise because right now, whenever I go to MyGather it shows that I have New Group Tasks so I am constantly having to check to make sure if the number is greater than 3. It's really pretty aggravating and I'm on Gather to have fun...not to be aggravated. Thanks!
Let me know if you can help.
Hi, Amy

Jen,
As Amy asks above, please check that your Guarded Viewing filter is turned off COMPLETELY. This means that all four content types are checked (language, nudity, etc.). If it is turned off, then you are experiencing a known glitch affecting many group owners.
Gather may reset the count for you temporarily, but this glitch will not be corrected until mid-May.
I've been reading your comments about MaryAnne's post yesterday about Gather Etiquette: Please Don't Litter, and find them very interesting. What do you think would be a better approach? Actually. . . . I was hoping that you might chime in on my post: What would YOU do if you ran the Gather Zoo?
Respectfully,
Are you still sending out the Featured Questions to people via Gather mail? I haven't gotten one since sometime last week.
Perhaps this may clarify my position:
I understand the events and observations that fostered MaryAnne's post. I agree, to a great extent, with the premise for the post. However, I believe that the message could have been communicated much more effectively than it has been. If MaryAnne had approached the subject differently, the discussion would not have spiraled out of control the way that it has.
There are now more questions raised that have gone unaddressed, members are less certain about what is allowed and what is not, and members have been needlessly offending along the way. The thread, and message, is essentially a disaster area and I would never direct members to that post to receive clarification on this matter.
Many of the questions raised by members should have been anticipated, and included within the post initially. Also, conflicting messages should have been avoided, and every effort (even SOME effort) should have been made to ensure that the thread covered all forms of 'comment spam'. Therefore, the post would have served as a reference for those seeking greater (or any) clarification on the definition for this term, as well as the associated policy. Again, this post failed on all counts, and will have little to no effect on this practice long-term.
I am experiencing some technical problems with mail that have recently become evident. I hope to have time to look into it further...soon(ish). Thanks for letting me know though.
Thanks, and I do appreciate your answer -- on multiple levels. That said, what I'm really trying to get at is: If it were up to you, that is if YOU ran the zoo, how would you address the abuse/overuse of comment spamming and posts which are clearly taken & copied from elsewhere. You've answered this question for me to some degree in your response to my comment, but I wonder if you would mind elaborating?
Thank you. :)
Respectfully,
I'll return as soon as I can to respond to your questions...I'll be away for a little while, but it won't be too long.
Thanks!
No worries. Please reply at your convenience. No need for it to be today!
Best wishes,
To get the flag removed, who do I write to? Gather Support?
You really don't need to contact them. They will see your post on their report and then take appropriate action. If you do not add a language flag to your post however, they will remove the comment if you do not do so first. I hope that helps!
I do have another question that I think you just answered but I see these fouled mouth posts, does Gather monitor this? I hate flaggers but some of this is so blatant.
Life interrupted last night and I was unable to return here to answer your questions. I'll address them this morning as soon as I can.
Thanks!
Do you know if the gather glitch has been corrected with regard to the "manage content" in groups. In my group "The Ultimate Collection" it's indicating I have 74 and I do not have any to accept/decline!! (I read the comments in response to Jen's question too and my my guarded viewing is off.....I've always keep it off since "I don't want to miss a thing"!!)
Thanks Kevin.....you are the 'gather angel'!! :O)
Good morning Kevin
