So many people are purchasing micro cars for the fuel economy and outstanding mileage. Not only is the fuel economy among the best available but they are reasonably priced, making them easier to afford.
But at what cost? What risk?
I remember when I got my driver's license, I wanted a little CRV and was so angry when my dad wouldn't let me have one. I didn't care that my dad was in the auto business and knew almost everything there was to know about cars. I wanted the car that was cute, I didn't care about anything else. Then I saw what happened when a small car met a full size vehicle and then I understood my dad's decision.
Once I became a parent, I wanted to make sure that my kids were in a safe vehicle. My husband doesn't like cars, never has. He wants a vehicle where he's not looking into the bumpers of others. :)
Seeing all these little 'matchbox' cars on the road is pretty scary when you think about all the big vehicles on the road that they have to come into close contact with. A tiny car doesn't stand a chance if it meets a full size vehicle or semi.
I'm talking about normal size cars, I'm talking about those tiny ones that you can barely see! :) I used to own a Toyota Corolla and I loved that car! My first car was actually a VW Bug, so I have owned cars in the past.
Micro cars are getting a bad rap right now, crash test results are terrible. I'll admit that micro cars are super cute but I would never own one - and neither will my kids. For this family, a micro car is not worth the risks involved. Besides, in the winter I would never be able to get it out of my driveway or even find it for that matter!

They are no match to regular size cars in a accident
Small cars aren't the problem, it's people who can't admit to themselves they can't handle a large vehicle and then run over all of us small car drivers who know we can't drive big cars LOL
Trust me, working in a fuel center for almost a year now I can tell you at least here, most people who drive an SUV or larger car (hummers are horrible) cannot drive the darn things.
I'm not saying everyone who drives big cars can't drive but in my experience many people can't handle a large vehicle :0)
But yeah I'd totally buy a micro car if I had oodles of money.
Seriously, I know what you are saying! Some people love little cars, heck there are a few I would love to have. But like you said, it would scare me with all those BIG cars driving next to me!
Seriously, tonight I almost had an old lady driving a hummer run right into one of my pumps. Then she backed up, almost hit some lady in a mini cooper and then ended up parking 20 feet away from the pump.
Hidden cameras, I need them.
Once we can't afford the dinosaurs anymore, we will all be driving more size-appropriate, thrifty versions, and it won't be dangerous anymore :-)
We also have a Jeep Wrangler and a Toyota pickup (although we all can't fit in this one)
Now we have a minivan, and my husband's old S10. I really do prefer the minivan overall, even though the gas mileage isn't great. The one complaint I have with it is that I have to have Elliott's car seat next to the door, or all the way in the back, where it's a huge pain to get him into and out of it. I much preferred being able to put him right in the middle of the backseat in the Malibu Maxx that we had the first couple of years of his life.
Mooch
They scare me. When I was a teen, we were in an old, old station wagon that got sideswiped by a greyhound bus. You could still drive it, and we all walked away. I'd hate to think what would have happened had we been in a fiberglass car.
With five of us, it's not really a possibility now, anyway.
Should have seen what happened to my 1986 Plymouth Horizon when it was rear-ended by a van, and that car is larger than these are and constructed of heavier duty materials.
The "hatch-back" trunk area of my car was sitting in my back seat.
Nope, nope nope. Not me.

Naw... there will always be larger vehicles on the road. Not all families have 1.5 kids hehe. We've got 5 children and will be driving a mini-van for a very long time yet.
You've also got the people that simply would not fit into the micro-cars. My husband is 6'4". I've got a friend that is 6'5", another friend that is 6'3", and another friend that is 6'8".
Could you just see these guys trying to squeeze into a micro car? ROFL.
I have a 1989 Mercury Marquis.I like it It's big and I feel safe in it.
If I ever have to get another one it will not be a small one.
it my 'Soup Can' it was so small !!
the rearend of my 'Soup Can' !
a concussion, contusion below my right knee which
filled up with a puss sac that had to be removed !!
It took several needles ot remove it !!
balance, another thing that happened to me.
has a hard lump in it. Xray's showed that soft tissue
had calcified there.
'No Way'. I've been through enough already !!
really giving me so much pain I'll need to have
it looked at again.
I gotta love the comment "they are ugly" - yeah, that's important over pollution !!!
Helping you reach your gather goals!
I have a toyota corolla, but as far as regular driving (and winter driving) I actually liked my camry better. I wouldn't be comfortable with anything larger though. I drove my grandma's crown vic a few times, and that intimidated me.
I have to drive my husband's truck occasionally, and I'm not crazy about that either. Like Heather, I am really short, and I feel lost in large vehicles.
I remember when this happened! Horrific! That poor woman. I can't even imagine. I do believe that they now will stop smaller vehicles from crossing the bridge during higher winds.
They always have to work around stuff like high winds, flash floods and high water and snow.
For people who are only doing city limit driving and don't have passengers these small cars are great. These are only going to be perfect for a small percentage of people. Jason is an example of someone who could use a tiny car or motorcycle because he goes to school alone and doesn't need to take the highway during his trip. The highest speed limit he encounters is 40, though during rush hour people rarely can go that fast.
running by from new stuff
I've always prefered BIIIIG vehicles.
You won't catch me on a motorcycle either! LOL. If it were just me on the road... sure, no problem!
I am fine with my minivan
