I need a couple of kids songs. I can't think of any for some reason. My mind has gone blank. LOL I have an interview on Wednesday for a position as a part-time entertainer/teacher for preschoolers. Basically they teach kids through music and theatrics and the criteria is to know how to be goofy (got that down), funny (got that down too). sing (I can do that), crawl around on the floor and be silly (boy is that up my alley! LOL) and be able to entertain in front of an audience of kids and parents, all the while teaching kids the basic fundamentals of learning.
The first interview is with a group and we have to come prepared to wear socks, sit on the floor and to get to know each other, plus we have to get up and sing a kids song in front of everyone as part of the interview process. However, my problem is...that it's been so long since I have heard any kids songs. What are some of the older ones we used to sing that I might be able to remember???
Thanks for your help...

try going to Walmart and looking for Kids songs DVD....
5 little monkeys jumping on the bed
zippity do da
I love you a bushel and a peck---my fave!!
The Bumble bee song
Tom the Toad
Little Bunny Fo-Fo
If I had a Hammer
The Wheels on the bus
Hickory Dickory Dock
Just play a tune with three or four cords, you make up the first line or two and show them how it's done.
Example: I like sunshine... makes me feel good all the time
I like potatoe chips....fun to dunk them in the dip
I like my mom and dad...and little sisters' not so bad
I like to read my book...("your turn! sing a line that rymes with book")
and so on...
Most of the time it will turn out silly, so don't forget to laugh and have fun. It's easy to get volenteers; most kids like the attention this will bring.
Sounds like you have the personality to pull this off easy enough.
Hope this helps!
...tell you his troubles of the day etc...the kids will love it and it takes some of the pressure off of you when you hit a blank wall ( this would be a good time for him/her to be telling you a secret while you try to remember or come up with something new.
"Bones, bones, we love our bones that all connect together...(stop clapping while you slowly say) ...My Knee is called Patella"
Go through three or four a day while pointing to the bone and saying the familiar names, then follow with the technical terms. After several rounds, the kids get it then you can point to the bone and say the familiar name while you let them say the new name for it.
Each day add a new one. It's really fun for them when they remember to get it right. So don't for get to clap and cheer when they do.
People would hear Jordan do this by herself thinking she was so intelligent...she is!
When I taught preschool, and now that I teach a preschool aged class at church, I've found that they like anything with action or movement. We do some "fun" songs to get our wiggles out, and then calm down with a slower song or two...
(Kids pretending to be asleep)
A polar beat a polar bear is sleeping in his cave (repeat X2)
Be quiet, be quiet, be very very quiet for if you wake him if you shake him he'll be very mad
(Kids Roar)
The Wheels on the Bus is always popular too
Dena,
Thanks for reminding me about "Thumbkin"...that is going into my repertoire for the Grand baby.

Actually, my favorite kid's song is "Sipping Cider through A Straw", but I don't have that one. There are so many to choose from and I don't know which artist or performer to get.

Rise Up Singing: The Group Singing Songbook
You have to know the melodies, but it has the words and guitar chords, and occasionally the bass line or other notable fragment for guitar that distinguishes the song. Great index of titles and first lines. Everything from old-time to Motown (in my editions, the newer versions may be even more up to date, now).
