I will always give credit where it is due. I have major differences with President Obama but giving the order to use deadly force on the Somali pirates was not only the correct thing to do, but it was the best way to handle the situation.
I am sure he will catch flack from some of his liberal follwers, but heh... that's the job.
Again, good job, and thank you.
Now, send the marines to the pirates stronghold and blow them away. Force is the only thing they understand, after all, they are only businessmen.
Also: Praise to our Navy seals! Job well done.

No flak from me on this one for you or the President. This was not a matter for ideological dispute.
You have expressed the fact of your basic disagreements with the president flatly with no additional commentary and then proceeded to fully express your appreciation of his actions that you do support.
Well done. I think that all of us, on both the left and the right, can take guidance from your example.
For the record, as a leftist, I agree with you that Obama has done the right thing in this instance. As a Canadian, my support doesn't count for much, but I thought I would express it in any event.
Thank you. There is a time and place for everything.
Like Rory, I applaud you for your civility, Bert. There are other conservatives here on gather who are already criticizing the President, saying his authorization to take out the pirates will only incite terrorism.
Ironic that this cargo ship was loaded with humanitarian food aid...
Believe me I have my axes to grind, and I will. But in this case, he was right and I support him.
Actually there are places they congregate and taking out a bunch of them would not be that difficult. We have to take a stand otherwise this will repeat itself again and again.
One thing amazes me. There are Russians held hostage. It is not like them to sit on something like this. I'm surprised that a few of the pirates haven't been sent back to camp in little pieces. That is the Kremlin's usual M.O.
These guys go beyond just mercenary businessmen. Most of this money as I've read is going back to terrorist organizations to use, most likely on Europe and us. So putting and end to this is a win-win situation.
I heard an expert on Somalia on one of the news programs last night. He said the pirates' connection to terrorist groups is overstated, and went so far as to say there is no link. They are desperate farmers and fishermen who no longer have a way to make an honest living, and their country does not respect the rule of law. Not sure what I think about that. It does have to be stopped, however, or it could certainly continue to escalate.
Also, non one has mentioned the Malaysian Pirates in the Strait of Malacca. I guess they haven't hit a U.S. or French ship yet, at least none we know of.
UN FRAKKING BELIEVABLE.
I think you need to get off the Oxycotin.
Nothing wrong with opposing the president on principles, positions, policies. Nothing wrong with recognizing he did the right thing. Some believes he deserves no credit. Well, we all know what the discussion would be like if the rescue went wrong.
Crap happens and you can only do the right thing even if you get the wrong result.
I know that feeling personally, and I don't know about anyone else on here, but I can honestly say I would have said the same that I did win, lose, or draw. The president did what was right.
We can simply can not give in to terrorists no matter what form and that is what these guys are. Sure they are businessmen, but with guns.
I think we could get a pretty penny for the building and land those guys (U.N.) occupy in NYC. They complain we don't pay our share which is about a fourth of their total take, and now want us to abide by their every whim. I say tell them to pound sand, literally, and kick them out of the country and see how far they get. Without us, do you think Europe will pick up the slack. Not!
