One of my favorite memories of coloring Easter Eggs happened at church a few years ago. We had kids from 3-9 attending on Wednesdays. Three were there for the English as a Second Language group and the others while their parents were at choir practice. I missed coloring eggs with my kids, so thought it would be fun.
I just bought some vinegar and food coloring. I was really surprised to learn that of the 8 kids there that night, NONE of them had ever colored eggs. Even more surprising, the 42 year old teacher with me had never colored eggs either. The kids were amazed and had a lot of fun. One little girl just wanted hers to be solid pink, while one of the ESL kids got really fancy with his decorating. When I showed them the difference using a crayon first made on the decorating, it was like magic. The other teacher completely colored her egg, not understanding the concept at all.
I spent about $4 on supplies that night, but the responses were priceless. I bet every kid there thinks about what we did whenever Easter rolls around. I know I always will.
