I was born blond as blond can be. I stayed that way through high school. When I got pregnant the first time, my hair started to darken. Undyed, it's a very unflattery flat brownish color- no shimmer, no high lights, no tone to it at all. I dye it a few times a year now. I used to dye it about once a month. Now, I go about 4-6 months in between colorings. Always some sort of a brown with red undertones, though.
Used to be a very pretty brunette. But with the years it has turned into grey (Thanks Grandma B.!) I started to dye it brunette again about 10 years ago because I unexpectedly caught sight of it in a mirror and was shocked at how grey it was. Grey hair runs heavy in my family and comes early. My daughter was 13 when she found her first one. She is only early 30's and if she didn't dye her hair she would be all grey. Poor thing. Any my son has not a single grey hair!
The good news kind of is that my hair is gray and moving to white faster than I want it to. The bad news is there is less and less of it to worry about!
I'm with Heather, same thing happened to me. No gray yet, fortunately, but colored 6 months ago and letting it grow out healthy (for now anyway, until I get bored with it)
I used to be blonde, then as I've gotten older, nature has turned my hair darker, to brown, dark brown. Now I've got plenty of gray coming in which doesn't bother me much. I've never really died my hair and I might try it one day but for now, my hair color is fine with me!
My natural hair color is a light brown. I dyed it Black in December. Boy, I had a time getting that mess out of my hair. After getting it stripped, it is now an auburn looking color. I'm waiting on it to wash on out.
Instead of going gray, I went blonde. I was born with blue-black hair and it was very dark brown most of my life. In my early 20's I started going gray. By my 30's I was dying it my natural color but as the years have passed and there was more gray, I started going lighter and lighter. If my gray was pretty, I'd let it be, but it's a dull mousy gray that washes all the color out of my face. And besides, my bf is 10 years older than I am and I don't think he has a single gray hair. If I let it grow out now, he'd look like he was dating his mother.
I've always been complimented on my pretty hair, its long, sleek, and chocolate brown, with tinges of dark blond when I'm in the light, and my mom said a little red is starting to show thru in the light also.

I used to highlight and lowlight it with reds when I first started doing hair, in 2003. I haven't since late 2004 or early 2005, though.
