What do you put in your kids Easter baskets besides candy?

I usually do a pretty descent baskets for my kids but this year the money just isnt there and none of them are really big candy eaters. I put a few small pieces of candy in them and some fruit but as far as a gift to put in there I am stumped on what to do. I usually get them each a DVD to put in but not this year. If you have any ideas for cheap little gifts to fill it with I am open to any suggestions. Thanks everyone and have a very happy Easter. We usually put alitttle toy or stuffed bunny in ours.

My son is an adult now, so no more Easter baskets...well, I guess I could of done them for the guys but didn't. Usually, I would put some cash in the basket, along with some neat little toys, maybe some Easter pencils, etc....I'd always make huge baskets, and they were soooo much fun! I'd also boil and color Easter eggs and put them in the baskets as well....it was sooo much fun!
The kids each have a nice DS stylus in their basket, a toothbrush, and a little Magnetix kit my FIL got as a freebie (he sent 3 sets), and a small stuffed bear.
Beach toys and summer playthings are always good- bubbles, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, a kite, squirt guns, etc.

You can always put an IOU in each basket for time alone with you or something special like a day at the local park, a nature walk etc. It costs you nothing and yet the time you spend with the kids will be priceless.

have you tried hitting your local dollar store? Dollar tree has some amazing things and its only a buck each.

I made baskets for the grandkids, 2 are under 4mths old so they got stuff toys in theirs. The 1 and 2 yr old got some candy getting to hunt plastic candy filled eggs and then I put int small stuffed toys, those bunnies that hop, sidewalk chalk, little plastic purses that have that nexklace candy in it. You can find nice little things for the younger kids. Walmart also has bigger baskets for older kids with sports things, dolls, trucks and such in for $20 or less.

My kids are too old for toys now, but if I were in your place, I'd go to a dollar store and look around. It's surprising what they have there for a dollar that looks pretty good. If you're crafty, maybe you could make something for them, too.

I like to put at least one plastic egg with a $5.00 bill. This year Elena made her own baskets which she filled with eggs, candy and a few small toys.

I went to the dollar store before hitting walmart - saved a lot of money on those little basket stuffers.

I put cheap little LEGO sets in my kids' baskets this year.

I got my son a few things from the dollar tree, like a book, coloring book, a puzzle, and a couple of small toys. He's also getting a board game that is on sale this week, some color wonder stuff that I picked up on clearance, and a DVD that was part of a special at KMart, where when you spent $40 on Huggies and Disney DVD's you saved $10.

He's getting a bigger basket than my husband would like, but I stayed in the price range he gave me, so it's all good.

I also picked up a couple of different packages of stickers for $1 each (from Target) and cut them into sections of 1-2 stickers and put some of them into some of the plastic eggs for him to hunt. I did change (mostly pennies, nickels, and dimes) in a few, too, so that he wouldn't get so much candy.

my parents still make me and my adult brother easter baskets lol and they make one for my dh and my son. We get gift cards in ours to different fast food places, we get candy and random other things. My son is 16months old and is getting one choc. bunny, side walk chalk, bubbles, a small boombox toy because he loves music, a singing dancing bunny from hallmark, a basket filled with toys for the beach and a lawn mower that blows bubbles when pushed

You could even use a beach bucket in place of the basket, and the Dollar Tree has a LOT of fun beach & summer toys right now!

Dollar stores are great as is CVS, especially if you have their club card. That is if you have one in your area.

Each of my grandkids are getting a stuffed bunny, some egg sunglasses from Big Lots, a puzzle, one bag of candy and a hollow chocolate bunny, a Peep that can light up in your palm, and a book.

Hope you had a great Easter. Some interesting suggestions were given. My kids are all adults now but a few still wanted the Easter bunny to visit. They figured as long as he was coming for my grand kids he might has well drop off a treat for them too.

I didn't make an Easter basket for Mackenzie this year cuz she is way too young.  But when I was younger and used to get Easter baskets, we would always get socks, money and a hard brown boiled egg.
