The Getaway Hike

Late afternoon sunlight
beckons me outdoors
Its warm rays massage
my work-weary brow.

Walking down the slope
to the water’s edge
an invitation to relax
is offered, and I take it.

A hike is in order.
Circling the lake’s edge
I shed my worries
as a dandelion sheds its seeds.

Forty minutes later
My heart feels lighter
My camera is bursting with photos
and my face is wearing a smile :-)

The first hike of the getaway weekend is working!

Written for the Shedding Light group started by Mariana T. My husband and I went away for a three days a couple of weeks ago and this was about our first hike while there. It was a cleansing of sort...shedding all the work worries and being relaxed and open to Nature and each other as away of finding our "center" again.

Thank to you both (Marianne and Mariana)...it was the most wonderful weekend..no phones (our cell phones didn't work until we were almost out of the park), no TV, just reading, writing, hiking, enjoying the fireplace and firepit...simply perfect!

I hope to get caught up with my Creative currents..and get around to reading all you Sistahs...sorry I have been so swamped with work and life lately ;-)

Funny you all should mention the dandelion thing...as we walked I was thumping them and letting the little seeds float away (it was pretty windy and they were lovely to watch) and it suddenly hit me I wasn't thinking about work at all anymore...and I was smiling SO big..I felt like a kid cause I used to do that all the time when I was a little girl. So when it came time to write this up, that image came readily to mind.

Dear Mariana---no I haven't..but I plan to work on it this weekend...I really want to get my Mother Earth photo essay into a book on blurb and see if it will spark any interest. Thanks for reminding me ;-)

I, too, love the imagery of shedding your worries like dandelion seeds. I also like the image of the sun massaging your brow. I can almost feel the stress of the work world melting away with these words.
