I love taking pictures. I have noticed birds are very good subjects to try and catch. They are flighty and can move in less than a second. But if you are near enough, move slow and talk softy. They will look and listen long enough for you to snap a picture. I have learned by watching wildlife they are as curious about us, as we are of them.
About two weeks ago I was able to get a bunch of pictures at the near by Franklin Locks. The day I took my kids, it was bright and sunny. A storm moved in before we left. Just some nasty gray cloud cover. No rain. We didn't get any rain til the next day. But the wind picked up pretty good.
One thing I did notice was the water level was up at the locks. The usually means the lake further up north that is connected to the locks was releasing water. I was able to get pictures.

Birds my son decided to chase and watch scatter.

He doesn't try to catch them. Just enjoy watching them all fly at once.

This bird I followed for a bit to get a good shot.

This one kept diving for fish. It was hungry.

It is drying itself off in the sun and wind now. Belly must be full.

This little bird I had to talk to to get to look at me. Very skittish.

Here the little bi9rd is again hopping away.

This white bird sat very patiently on the chain link fence that is a railing along the dock of the locks where people can walk.

Just a note, having bred birds and still owning some 15 of them, they are referred to as having a full crop. It is what fills under the throat instead of stomach!

Thanks Kevin. Knowing you liked my essay and the effects I used on the pictures means alot to me.
That looks like a beautiful area in which to live.
