Good question, I have thought of starting a group just so I could have one place to go to find content to read. It just seems like it would be a more organized way to navigate around here.
I think the advantage of having your own group, is you will be able to monitor and make sure only relevent stuff goes with the theme you choose.
o many people start a group and than not moderate or monitor it. No matter how much we know adults are on this site and should be able to choose grups that goes with their theme. They don't, instead they choose every group they are a member of and send their content to. Thus causes a headahe for group owners.
I left several groups today becaue the group was onc them related. but for someone it has gotten off the theme of the group and became a post all group.
LOL. Sandy I was wondering the same thing... Please let me know if you find out. Also, I wonder how much time it takes to have your own group... such as moderating it and removing content and what-not...
Plus the majority of people here arent' in it for the fish sticks...
Why would you want to create a group? ...to earn more points?
...to organize your own content?
...to discuss a specific topic of interest?

I am helping to moderate READING BOOKS ONLINE! It is time-consuming and I don't earn anything extra from it except maybe a point or two from people that respond. I have to read all content that's posted (good or bad), determine it it's worthy of being featured and then set it up to feature. I then have to unfeature something else to make room. Of course, I always go to the post to let that person know his piece is being featured. It's very time-consuming. The owner of this group really doesn't have much to do with it. I think he owns other groups and he told me to act as if it's my group. So, I am getting ready to do that. In addition to all this, I have numerous emails from friends that I want to read and comment on. At present, I'm about a day behind. So think long and hard before deciding to create a group. It's a big commitment.
I have no idea if there's a point bonus. I have them because they are topics I post about (or will in the future) a lot and there was mo place to put them. Naturally, I also did it because the topic interested me and I wanted to see what others had to offer in that topic as well.
I don't think there is any advantage...but as the owner of a group you might see more content...especially content you are interested in if you make a group that's topic related over a post all group.
If you have a unique idea or favorite pastime in mind for a group, it can be fun to see others' ideas or responses to yours within the group. I have several and since most are moderated, I usually don't get inappropriate posting. Some group moderators run challenges, which bring in many articles. If you like to spend a lot of time on Gather, you can get many points through interacting with your groups. I don't, because I don't usually post that often. It's primarily for fun and to encourage others.

The answer is yes! ...and no.
It really depends upon your goals.
Why would you want to create a group?

...to organize your own content?
